Every Picture Tells a Story #3

This weeks photo/story is: I found this _______________ (seashell, ring, cobweb, flower, rare stamp)  Where and how did you find it? Do you often find "treasures"?

Go over to Monica's if you want to play along.

Here's mine...

I found this strange bone on the beach after a hurricane came through a few years ago.

At least I think it's a bone of some kind. Monica asked if we often find "treasures," I know most wouldn't consider this a treasure, but it is very unusual. I collect things from the beach. What won't fit in any of my jars get displayed in a big net on my patio.

I posted these photos about a year ago and I'm still trying to find out exactly what it is. With all the research I've done, I've never found anything similar. Here's a few more shots to show you a little more detail and just how big it is.

It's obviously very, very old and it looks as if it's been broken in half. It appears to be some kind of large rib bone. It's not a whale bone, I've checked that out already. I'd really love to find out what it is. Any clues?

That's a very cool find.  Do you think you could take it to a museum or aquarium where someone might be able to identify it?  If you EVER learn what it is....please share.
