Feeling Quiet

OK- Now I've thought of something!

OK- Have you noticed how in this presidential race, there is an awful lot of talk about faith goin' on in the Democratic side? I came upon an article in the Dallas Morning News, from a about a week ago. The article mainly talks about the switch for liberal democrats to bringing into their campaigns more faith and moral values- and the front runners of the republicans being scrutinized for their lack of, or different religious affiliations. I have heard so much talk on the part of the democrats about "faith", they all seem to be in a race to tell how much "faith" they have, how "religious" they are and that they do so believe in god and morals. I have to again, remind these people, that faith is not something that you talk about once every election race. You can talk "faith" all you want, but that does NOT necessarily make one a Christian. For instance, the Dallas paper states,

On Monday in Washington, this year's Democratic front-runners were warmly applauded by 1,300 people in a college auditorium at the conference themed: "Faith Guiding Our Votes."

Now, I have to say- just because you profess faith- I could take that as a faith in anything from Buddha, to Satan, faith in fellow human ingenuity, to faith in Hare Krishna. Now I have to assume that they are talking about faith in Jesus? Then why not say "Faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Guiding our votes" ? Because they are afraid of turning off their base which is made up more of social religionists, communists, atheists and humanists. They are affraid of offending all the other religions that make up a big part of their base- and offending the ACLU and other groups that donate big campaign checks.  Do I sound harsh here? If I'm sounding like I'm saying there are no Christ believing democrats, I am not saying that- but you Christian Bible believing folks are a rarity among the liberal democratic party. next point, the paper states,

The event reflected the advice of some Democratic political professionals who say the party has been too wary of offending secular voters and must do a better job expressing a clearmoral vision. See, this is what I'm talking about- you can not just start all of a sudden talk religion and morals- if you are not already living your faith and morals- you are missing the whole point of what we, the Bible believing Christians are all about. You are only using people with words- not action. The article goes on-

"I come from a tradition that is perhaps a little too suspicious of people who wear their faith on their sleeves, so a lot of the talk about advertising your faith doesn't come naturally to me," Mrs. Clinton told the crowd.

She then talked at length about God and faith in specific language resonant to a religious audience, citing "prayer warriors" and "prayer chains" and how she "had a grounding in faith that gave me the courage and strength to do what I thought was right, regardless of what the world thought."

Now, again, Mrs. Clinton, I come from a very quiet Anglican background- in a home where you did not talk openly about your peronal belief- because it was well- personal.  I got over it though. And- no offense, but your record as a lawyer in Little Rock, first lady and senator from New York do not show any real evidence of a Christian, Bible believing faith. Now, I don't know your heart Mrs. Clinton- but from outward expression, I am seeing anything BUT a Christian belief. From socialist, communist talk about the common good, socialized healthcare, your support of gay "marriage", your support, and even strongly promoting abortion on demand and embryonic stem cell research, questionable legal and financial practices and some of the questionable people you are friends with- well, let's just say, I gotta question what you have faith in. When I go out or am in social situations, I don't wear my faith on my sleeve either- but people know whom I have faith in- and that I trust in the Bible as truth and a way of living. I am far from perfect, and am not too proud to say so, but I try and live what the Bible says every day. I don't just bring up my "faith" when it's beneficial to me in some way to get what I want.

Now, this one really takes the cake for me-

"I think religious folks are tired of being divided from one another," said Joshua DuBois, director of religious affairs for the Obama campaign. "It takes a lot of energy to overlook the seminal verses in the Bible about love and about poverty just to focus on the couple that get you riled up."

If someone is a person of deep Christian beliefs, why does one need a "director of religious affairs"? When someone asks me a question about my belief in Christ- or the Bible, I don't need to consult with anyone- I give the straightest answer from my heart- not a cue card. As for the statement about overlooking verses in the Bible, and focusing on"a few" - that's another place where these people have no clue. Bible believing Christians take the WHOLE Word- we don't just quote a few of the best known verses to suit our purpose- we know all about Jesus' commandments to love- Love God - Love our neighbors as ourselves. We know about poverty- how the poor will always be among us, but not meaning to just leave them alone- We also know what God says about human life in the womb- what it says about human life being created inGod's image- but show me one spot that the Bible says it is the job of government to give to the poor. It is NOT in there. There is however many verses in both the Old and New Testaments about working for wages, laziness and giving to the poor. Months ago I posted an entry about a poll that came out a while back on who is the most charitable in this country. For a refresher- those who give most to charitable organizations, and donate more time and money to helping the poor and victims of disaster are- drum roll please.... Christian Conservative Republicans. Now, again, I'm not saying that Christian democrats don't give- they do, but polls show that Christian conservatives are highest on the list in helping the poor- bottom of the list are liberal democrats , followed by athiests. So- while those who love to profess the few scriptures about the poor and call on more government intrusion on your wallet- those of us who are "dividing" religion are busy working the soup kitchens, and helping get people back on their own feet, while giving them some dignity. As for those "couple" of verses that get us riled up- again, we believe in the WHOLE Book- those that talk about Jesus' love, God's love- and His judgements. We see what happens to societies when they are given over to sinful practices and devaluing of human life- they are no more. We'd like to see America stay strong, moral and a continuing light to the rest of the world- thank you very much. Next part of the article says-

A recent Pew Research Center study found an increase in public support to help the poor 69 percent of Americans believe "government should care for those who can't care for themselves," up 12 percent from a decade ago. It also found that Americans have become less conservative on the traditional social values that nourished the Religious Right. Again- show me where in the Bible does it say for the government to take care of people? No Where. One case in point- the Katrina disaster.  Louisiana has been a democratic run state for almost ever.  People have seemed to always been poor in many parts of that state.  We saw the poverty splashed across the news for weeks after Katrina struck.  What did the government do for these people?  Billions have been given to the state- but people are still out of their homes, out of the area for lack of housing.  Billions of dollars unaccounted for by the democratic state leaders. People are still poor.  Who was there immediately after the storm?  Charity organizations like Samaritan's Purse, Operation Blessing, local, state and national church outreach groups- that's who.  Those of us on the Christian right, the compassionate conservatives already know what our duty to the poor are, and are already doing it without government intervention. As far as Americans are less conservative on traditional social values- that is the one thing in this article I can agree on- but it is not because of changing attitudes of Bible believing Christians. It is because of the sudden surge of groups like Sojourners, the faithful democrats, and all the emergent /liberal churches out there, tickling the ears of those who don't want to hear that they are sinners. As long as they hear about Jesus' love, they think they're OK.

Alexia Kelley, executive director of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, said a moral agenda means more than a single issue such as gay marriage or abortion.

"Commitment to one issue doesn't exhaust one's commitment to the common good," she said.

This comment could go either way- we Bible believing Christians are against abortion and anything else that harms, takes away and devalues human life and dignity- we are against gay marriage, believe homosexuality is wrong, we believe in "proselytizing" that is- telling people about Jesus as He commanded us, but we also believe in being good stewards of the earth- while not worshiping it, we believe in helping the poor and downtrodden- but not by hand outs- hand ups. We believe that people are made in the image of God- so we get angry when liberal agendas are taught in our public schools- teaching our kids about all kinds of sexual activities, while telling us that abstinence doesn't work. We get a little more than annoyed when schools allow speakers in to tell the kids that sex and drugs should be participated in, while at the same time, punishing kids who mention Jesus Christ in their valedictorian speeches. Once upon a time, the common good for this country was the strong national commitment to Christian morals and belief in the Bible as a treasured instruction book- taught in schools and given out to passers by. The common good where immigrants would come to this country- learn our language, our customs and our beliefs- yet were still free to practice their own. The common good where school kids recited the 10 commandments and One Nation Under God, knew the whole Star Spangled Banner, knew the history of the beginning of this nation and were required to show respect to each other and their elders. Well- thanks to the liberal left- this has changed into the nation we have now- division, illegal immigration out of control, way over bloated government, abortion on demand, morning after pills used as contraception, sexually transmitted diseases running rampant, drug use up, teen suicide up, teencrime way up- if this is the way you like this country- I'd suggest voting for one of the above candidates, because it is their lobbies, their base who have been a huge part in bringing us this new common good. My next post- I think I'll dissect the Republicans!

       CAROLYN,
IT TOOK ME A WHILE THOUGH I READ IT ALL AND NO DISAGREEMENTS.
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE THAT WILL HAVE A YOUNG CHILD GO INTO A ROOM CONTAINING ONLY THE CHILD AND A MAN THAT MEDIATES THE CONFESSION OF WRONGDOING.
SINCERE BIBLE READING CHRISTIANS KNOW THAT SCRIPTURE TELLS US THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE MEDIATOR BETWEEN GOD AND MAN AND THE MEDIATOR IS JESUS CHRIST.
WHAT A 'SETUP' AND A GIFT TO A PEDOPHILE, ALLOWING MOLESTATION.
AFTER SO MANY YEARS OF CONTINUATION AND COURT CASES PROVING THE MOLESTATION HAPPENED AND IN MANY CASES, LARGE PAYOFFS, CHILDREN'S LIVES MESSED UP, SOME COMMITTING SUICIDE. SAD  SAD  SAD.
I RAISE EYEBROWS TOWARD A PARENT ALLOWING A PEDOPHILE TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE CHILDREN.
HOPEFULLY THE PEDOPHILES ARE IN THE MINORITY. HAVE THESE PARENTS EVER READ THE SCRIPTURE SAYING THAT JESUS IS THE ONLY MEDIATOR ?
BY ALL MEANS, I SAY, KEEP THE CHILDREN IN SIGHT IN WELL LIGHTED ROOMS.
BUY THE CHILD A BIBLE WITH LARGE PRINT AND READ WITH THEM THE PASSAGE OF SCRIPTURE SAYING JESUS IS THE ONLY MEDIATOR.
PERHAPS I MAY SEEM UPTIGHT ABOUT THIS, HOWEVER , A LITTLE FRIEND AND NEIGHBOR, A YOUNG LAD COMMITTED SUICIDE. HE AND HIS OLDER BROTHERS AND DAD HAD DID MUCH WORK, MOWING ETC. VERY SAD.
HOPEFULLY SINCERE CHRISTIANS WILL GET AWAY FROM SO MANY MAN MADE RULES AND APPARANTLY FALSE LOOKING 'POMP'. PRAY FOR GUIDANCE.   sam

You could be talking about the UK.  In the name of tolerance we have become intolerant to christians.  Persecution could come in my lifetime.

Hardin County politics often finds those running for sheriff or such a post hurrying to church in the months before elections, and rarely seen a year after.  Around here, local politics is still all democrat.  But that is because of the strong union/working man background here and they hail from the days when democrats were for the "little people".  -  In the end it's not a question of faith at all as it only takes a mustard seed size helping.  It's a question of what do you personally do with Christ Jesus.  If he's not Lord and Savior, then you aren't a Christian, no matter your denomination or your political party.  -  Barbara

One of your BEST entries. People do not have to say they are a Christian. If they are, it will be reflected in the life they live. Too many people toss those words out, especially those at the top. Yet too often, what they are professing to believe does  not match the life they live. Christians will walk as Christ walked, tough as it may be; will not speak one word, unless what comes out of their mouth echos what HE said. I look forward to your entries. This was a long one. LOL but worth reading.
    Hugs, and love too,
