Feeling Chillin'

If I could Vote

In my past post, I talked about the sudden "faith" of those on th eliberal democrat side of the campaign for President.  Now I think it's time to say few things about those who are (so far) running for the republicans.

By now all my regular friends who come here to visit- know that I am unapologetic when it comes to my Christian beliefs and also my conservative political leanings. I am Christian first, and conservative second- I want to touch on the republican candidates religious leanings, then on past records on social and ethical issues that I know so many of us are watching carefully.

Fist, let me say, that as people, I'm sure all of the republican candidates are real nice, and also quite decent. However, if someone is going to be president , they have to be more than just a nice guy. With this thought, I'd like to comment on Mitt Romney. I'm sure Mr. Romney is cent person- but as a Mormon- I do have a problem with that. If he wasn't running for President, I'd have no problem with his religious beliefs, except that I would always hope he would come to be a Christian. For those who may think- well, isn't Mormon a Christian church? No- not even when they mention Jesus' name in the Latter Day Saints title. The Mormon religion is NOT Christian- there are way too many differences in their theology and that of Christianity for me to ever believe that one can be a Mormon and a Christ believing Christian as well. I'm not going to go into a comparison right now, but if you want to learn more, go here. This is one of the best religious comparisons around. My main point here though, is that Mitt Romney is a Temple Mormon- which means that he has sworn an oath to the Temple, in which would make him have to defer to the church- even if it conflicted with the oath of office to the United States President. I am not trying to be a religious bigot here- what I am trying to point out- is that like Islam, when you take an oath of public office- you must adhere to what is in the best interest of thepublic, but in certain religions such as Islam and Mormonism, you must adhere first to the church- and that's where I have a problem. Not just Romney's church affiliation do I have misgivings- but also on his sudden pro life stance- as in the past, he was pro abortion as well as his anti gun stance. Someone who changes on such an important issue when they are thinking of running a major campaign, makes me think twice about their sincerity on the subject.

Which brings me to Rudy Gulliani. I admire the man immensely after 9/11 happened- but on many other issues, from his pro abortion stance, and contributions to planned parenthood, to his anti gun stance- I just have to wonder what he would be like as President. He would probably make a great secretary of defense- maybe, but not my choice for President. He says he is a Catholic, but I have to wonder how devout due to questionable attitudes such as the pro life question- would he, since he supports a woman's choice to choose abortion, also be accepting federally funding all abortion? Would he support bills which allowed for tax dollars going to the UN for world wide "reproductive" healthcare? Would he allow for tax supported embryonic stem cell research and cloning? It's too hard to tell because his lines are so blurred for me to be comfortable with him running the country.

I always liked Sam Brownback from Kansas- but lately, I have to wonder about him as well. He is staunchly prolife which is wonderful- yet with all the evidence against Kansas abortionist, George Tiller doing illegal late term abortions and also underaged girls- he has not raised much of a peep to help former Kansas AG, Phil Kline to get the charges started against Tiller. It's an involved case, which I don't want to get into here- but it's been a mess, and basically Kline is the only one in the state who has been going after Tiller. Also Brownback disappointed many conservatives with his going against President Bush during the latest rounds of cut and run talk in the senate. I don't believe that he would be a good choice to take over when this country and many others are in what I say is a world wide war- where we are fighting whether we want it or not. Cutting and running is NOT an option. We went through 20 years of letting things slide- which is why , in part that the enemy is so bold now.

Now, when Fred Thompson was first talking about running- I was excited, because here is an old conservative who seems to be on the same page as the rest of us. However a couple of things disturb me along the same lines as Rudy Gulliani. Past voting record shows that he is willing to change his mind when it is in his best interest. When he was running for Tennessee- he was showing himself to be pro abortion rights- however once he was voted in, he predominantly voted pro life. He is strong on other issues- so he is still one to watch, but he is also one of those "globalists" who is an active member of the Council of Foreign Relations (CFR) which supports a one world government. He is said to be a member of the Church of Christ (the more fundamental side- not the liberal one), but it's questioned how often he attends. Now, for me that is not a question of one's faith- I haven't been to a church for a few years now- but I am still a committed Christian.

There is Duncan Hunter from California- and I have to admit, I don't know a whole lot about him, except that he is very against illegal alien amnesty and is wanting to see the fence built. He is also conservative in fiscal responsibilities- but beyond that,  that I don't know.

John McCain I can do with out because he is for amnesty, is sometimes pro life- but also pro abortion, and because of his McCain/ Feingold bill on campaign funding and donations- which limits even more grass roots organizations to be able to get information like this out closer to the voting time. I admire him for his being a POW from Vietnam war- and his unwavering stance on this war- so again, I'd leave him to be a cabinet member of some sort.

Now- my choice for President and VP would be- Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee. Why? Well- I've heard Newt speak, and agree with many of his stances on political and ethical issues. He has some excellent ideas on the illegal situation, has opened up forms for political candidates to let the public be more involved in debates, and he is a Christian conservative. Mike Huckabee is an unapologetic Baptist minister, who has experience as Gov. of Arkansas. Past experience shows that Governors are better at running the country than Senators because they know how to delegate and choose wisely because they have run a state. Senators don't run States, but are representatives who have no real experience with managing people.

If the election was held right now- I think the country would be in some trouble- no matter which side won. As you all know- I can't vote- but I pray that you will look into each candidate on both sides- check with past voting and amendment experience, look at who they are as a person- the skeletons if you will. Look at the lobby affiliations. Please make your choice wisely next year at election time. This time, I believe the very life of our Nation now depends on it. You've got plenty of time if you start your homework now.  Please don't just take the "mainstream" media's views on each candidate- with the internet, you can do your own digging.  You'll find a wealth of information you won't hear on any news cast.

Another great entry, as always! I'm a born and raised Kansas girl and have met privately with Sam Brownback.  He cried with me as I told our story of our daughter dying from leukemia, he was and I believe a very genuine man. Yet he truly disappointed me on his stance on this war a while back. He's said he's not running for Senate next term no matter what and well if he holds true to his word that will be another good mark for me. I'd be interested in seeing him run for our Gov. as we definately need a strong Rep. back in that office seat.

I'm definately agree with you on the rest of the "no votes". As far as Gingrich goes, I'm still shakey on him. There are many things I really like about him, but there's also some that I just need to do more research on personally.

Thank you for all the work you did do though.

    God Bless
    Christy

A very interesting entry.  I didn't know you can't vote.  Is this because you are not a citizen here?  Live in the UK?  If so, you are keeping up politically very well.
    loving you

I like your journal and your STAND for Christ. Thank you. Roz rznaber@aol.com
http:/journals.aol.com/rznaber/your-naber-blog/  While I'm here please pray for my dear husband and his family. His mother has cancer and is passing. The docs wont tell her how long she has left, but she has shriveled down to mere bone almost.  SHe is in immense pain and not a christian. We are hoping to make it in time to share the Gospel with her one last time. We need prayer for time. I know Gods' timing comes first - but if HE would just extend it - it it is His Will. Roz
