Feeling Happy
My Son the Prince
First off I want to apologize for not being around the past few days. I have been very busy and therefore exhausted. So, I just decided to take a few days off to rest.
The whirlwind weekend began Thursday. My youngest, Willy called during lunch and wanted to know if the school had called me. I told him, “No, did you do something wrong?” He told me no, that he just wanted to know if they had called and told me that he had won Freshman Homecoming Prince. So, I laughed and told him that they had not called. He was bummed but said, “OK, see you at my game this afternoon”. Then at 3:30 pm I headed to go and watch his football game at the high school. I ran into his class advisor and she pulled me aside so that Willy wouldn’t see me. She informed me that Willy had indeed won!! I was so excited. She then asked me if I would be able to attend the assembly on Friday when they announced the winners. I told her that nothing would keep me away. (I am so thankful it was last weekend I got sick) They won their game 57-21. A real spanking to the other team as the kids called it. All evening Willy bothered me about it. He kept saying things like, “You would tell me if someone had called and told you right mom? Cuz we all know how you cant keep a secret.” I smiled and told him that I probably would tell him because I am the world’s worst secret keeper. And I really didn’t lie to him. They didn’t call me. They told me in person that he had won!
The next morning driving him to school was excruciating for me. I had gone 16 hours without telling him! But, finally we got to the school and he got out. I had done it! Ashe got out of the car I reminded him that I would be coming to the school today around noon to turn in the permission slip for his date to the dance. Since she doesn’t go to the same school the school needs a permission slip from a parent. I told him this so that in case he saw me he wouldn’t be suspicious of me being there. Good thinking huh?
About noon Bo and I headed to the school. We decided that it would be better to go to the office after the assembly. We wanted to get a seat before the kids started pouring into the gym. We sat about halfway up in the middle. I wasn’t sure how they had the kids be seated. And low and behold Willy came in earlier than most of the kids since he was still on his lunch break. He comes up to us and laughing asks what we are doing there. I thought quickly and said that we decided since we were already at the school we would sit and watch the assembly just in case he won. Quick thinking huh? He seemed to accept that and went and sat down with his friends. My other son and his best friend saw us and sat next to us since we were in the junior class’s section. The assembly seemed to go on forever. Bo filmed most of it for Willy. Then came the time for the announcement of the Homecoming Court. The lady doing it said, “OK, we will start with the Freshman Class.” She had barely gotten that out of her mouth when the whole student body (I AM NOT JOKING EITHER!! I SWEAR THIS HAPPENED!!!!!) started screaming in unison, “Willy, Willy, Willy” They did it a bunch of times and finally allowed the woman to say, “This years Freshman Prince we all no and love, Big Wil Spilker” The kids exploded!!! I got tears in my eyes and Bo elbowed me to take some pictures while he was videoing it. I couldn’t have had a bigger smile on my face. I was the proudest mom alive at that moment. The kids clapped and hollered their woohoos for a good couple of minutes. They placed a crown on his head and he stepped back while they announced his Princess. Then they took their pictures and continued calling the names of the other classes that won and the Senior King and Queen. What was so funny and noticeable was that Willy got the biggest applause. The others got a nice round but mainly from their own classmates. Willy got one from ALL the classes. From Freshman to Senior. He is known by everyone since he’s so friendly and outgoing. After the assembly they had the royalty stay a few minutes after to tell them what they needed to do that night at the varsity football game and took their pictures.
It was now 2:15 pm and he was to be at the game by 7 pm and didn’t get out of football practice ‘til 5:15 pm. So, I knew time was of the essence. Bo and I headed out to go and buy Willy a new outfit. I had planned on getting his new outfit for the Homecoming Dance on Saturday morning but this plan was out the window since he had to wear it to the football game. The store I wanted to get his new outfit at was clear on the north side of town or about 35 minutes from where we were located. I got him new black slacks, grey silk shirt, a new tie, suspenders, socks and shoes. (He had nothing nice to wear!) When we got home I ironed them and then he got home. (Tyler got him for me). Thankfully everything fit and he really liked everything I got for him. We got to the school at the beginning of the second quarter. He went to where he was to go and the court all got into a stretch HUMMER limo. What an amazing car!!! Then at half time the limo drove around the football field and each prince and princess got out of the limo…one couple at a time and were introduced. Willy was such a gentleman to his princess. We got lots of pictures and video. By the time we got home we were so cold.
Saturday came and we did errands around the house and such. I took Tyler to buy a new shirt and tie. He had black slacks and shoes already. When we got back home both boys started getting ready to go. Tyler went to pick his girlfriend Rachel up and Willy’s date, Megan met him here. I wanted to get a picture of the 2 boys together but Tyler left before Willy was ready. Willy and Megan met Tyler, Rachel, Bob and Kim at the restaurant and had a fun time. Then they went to the dance. Willy danced one slow dance with his princess. But the rest of the dances he spent with Megan. Willy and Megan got home around 11 pm. And then she went home. (She has her license and drove them). Tyler called and asked if he could go bowling with his group and I said it was fine. They both slept in this morning but when they got up they told me everything that happened. It sounded like a really fun time. Made me miss my high school days! I went to every dance!
Well, I guess that is it for now. I was so tired from all the coming and going this weekend. I hope I got caught up on my rest today though. (Sunday) I hope everyone has a great Monday!
