GO OHNO!
So sorry I haven't updated in forever. My schedule with activities and school has been crazy...
The best events in my opinion, I just saw. Apollo Anton Ohno skated first the entire race in the 500m men's finals. He raced his relay team to bronze in the 5000m men's relay. It was the most exciting thing I have ever seen this Olympic games. Go Ohno!
(By the way...Bode has walked away without any "hardware". Can't say I'm too disappointed. Yippee!)
I can't believe the Closing Ceremonies are already upon us. I won't be updating the medal count now, but because it will be obsolete by the time most people read this. There are a few more events on the 26th, and then the closing ceremonies to the XXth Olympiad. More later. I hope you have enjoyed the games as much as I have.

Slipping and Sliding
There is a lot of slipping and sliding in the winter olympics. Does that have anything to do with the fact that there is a lot of ice and snow?
The Snowboarding Cross was very cool. It was nice to see them race instead of getting judged. Skeleton looks dangerous. I don't know if I'd want to run such a high risk of getting my neck cracked. Though there seems to be too much figure skating, I'm glad Yevgeny Plushenko finally got Gold. He deserves it. We've all been watching him for years.
Results after the events of February 16:
Figure Skating: Men's
GOLD Plushenko - Russia SILVER Lambiel - Switzerland BRONZE Buttle - Canada

We have very cold weather, a lot of sleet, and some snow in Nothern Illinois. I think we might be able to move the Olympics to Illinois for the remainder of the Games once the storms clear tomorrow morning.

Ouch!
I saw the preliminaries of Men's downhill Moguls. OUCH! I can't believe the pressure that those guys take on their knees. Down with Bode!
I really can't say I have much to say today. I had a lot of homework that needed to be done and impaired my ability to watch the games. All I have to say is I'm glad Bode Miller got disqualified from his event. My dislike (NOT hate) for him continues to grow. I went to joinbode.com and I can't say I really found anything there worth while.
It's up to you to chat about what you saw. Leave a review of www.joinbode.com if you like. Here are the results after the events of February 14. Happy Singles Awareness Day!

Go China!
My heart goes out to the Chinese pair in figure skating. The girl had such a horrible fall, and yet she kept going. I couldn't believe that they medaled silver! THAT is what the Olympic Games are all about.
Pairs don't seem like they were that good this year. I was excited when another Asian couple danced to PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!!! I am such a big fan.
Saw some speed skating today too. That's always fun. I don't get to see as much during the week. Kind of stinks.... Anyway, here are today's medals.

Amazing Endurance
I am so amazed at some of the events I saw today. The Men and Women's Pursuits were tiring just looking at them. Their new version of the 30 km or 18 mi race was very neat. I couldn't believe it when Frode Estil from Norway came back from last place to win Silver! I also had the opportunity to watch the speed skating events. If I were to start on a winter sport, I think it would have to be speed skating. They look so effortless (though it is a lot of work).
I was very disappointed when Michelle Kwan dropped out of the Olympics. Though I am not a figure skating "fan" I was hoping she would be able to score gold. I guess it just wasn't meant to be.
Please leave comments on any of the events you saw, especially the ones I haven't covered. Here are the results after the events of Sunday, February 2: Day 2.

The First Day of Events
I was very pleased with the events that I saw today. I saw some 5000 m long track speed-skating, the Nordic (how tiring!), and some biathlon. The Nordic was my favourite with the photo finish for the bronze medal. Here are the results after February 11th events:
Speedskating: Men's 5000m
GOLD: Hendrick, USA
SILVER: KRAMER, Netherlands
BRONZE: Fabris, Italy
Freestyle Skiing: Women's Moguls
GOLD: Heil, Canada
SILVER: Traa, Norway
BRONZE: Laoura, Sandra
Nordic Combined: Individual
GOLD: Hettick, Georg, Germany
SILVER: Gottwald, Austria
BRONZE: Moan, Norway
Biathlon: Men's 20km Individual
GOLD: Greis, Germany
SILVER: Bjoerndalen, Norway
BRONZE: Hanevold, Norway
TOTAL MEDAL COUNT TOP 5 COUNTRIES
1. NORWAY: 0G 2S 2B = 4
2. GERMANY: 2G 0S 0B = 2

4. UNITED STATES: 1G 0S 0B = 1
5. AUSTRIA: 0G 1S 0B = 1
Someone asked me about the USA representative in the opening ceremonies: I was as confused as you were. I have no idea.
I also realized it is spelled TORINO and not TURINO. The journal name will be spelled TORINO. The web address will change to http://journals.aol.com/love2sing2007/TORINO2006 at 10:00pm on February 12, 2006 Central Standard Time. I am so sorry for this confusion. The new link will be provided in my journal Faith in Roman Catholicism if you have trouble, after 10:00.

Opening Ceremonies
Contrary to European belief, NBC broadcast the entire opening ceremonies in primetime in the U.S. Highlights on the news? Neah! We don't mess around. (lol!)
While I don't have the talk of the town regarding events yet, I can say that I think the torchlighting here possibly out-did Sydney in 2000. Stefania Belmondo lit a half-circle which started a chain reaction of fireworks and flame, all the way to a fireball erupting on the torch hundreds of feet away.
What a great display of 80 nations coming together and celebrating regardless of politics, religion, borders....
I forgot that the U.S. times are necessarily international times, so I'll just post the events taking place each day. That's to come later for the 12th.
