Feeling Chillin'

Family get together.....

Ok so today me and the hubby went over to his dad’s for a get together for his brothers birthday. Now I guess I should catch up to speed on why this was such a weird moment. His family other than his dad HATES me and I don’t mean the just I cant stand someone HATE but the real, raw HATE kind of HATE! His mother has accepted that me and my husband have been married for 4 years and that it looks like we will be married much, much, longer. To have her son in her life she has to except me in his. His parents are divorced and both remarried to other people but they get along really well. I am so happy that they have found that in their lives since they share two sons together and now that one of those sons (my hubby) continues his career in the Military during this time of war. If God forbid something happen to him at least they know they will have one another to hold onto. Anyways, so here I sit with his family and I could feel the resentment in the air. His dad and I have finally came to a point in our lives that we are actually very good friends. We talk on and off a lot and actually I enjoy the conversations we have. He is a good person and I think highly of him and how he has always been able to forgive anything I have said or done and still try to tell me I can always turn to him for anything. So my hubby goes motorcycle riding with his dad leaving me there with his step-mother, his two brothers and his sister-in-law. Well his older brother has never as far as I known said one single bad thing about me and my husbands marriage, his younger brother I don’t know very well but he seemed nice, his sister-in-law well this was the 1st time I met her and she seemed very sweet and she was very pretty. Her daughter was a living doll. When they got back, here came his mother, step-dad and his sister (whom wanted to beat my ass at one time….guess she decided she wasn’t in the mood today…LOL). I’m in my thirties and she is a teen so yeah like that would be any battle to me. She didn’t say anything to me today and according to my hubby on the way home, he said it was a good thing because she knew better than to say one word negative with him around. I love him so much for wanting so badly to defend me. I got to thinking while I looked around at their faces that these people must look at me like I am part of the Addams Family….I do have a way about me that would make some people think I would fit in well with the Addams family. I actually like that about myself. I mean after all some members of my real family have friends that sleep in coffins. I am a strange one that comes from a strange family. I don’t drink blood or anything but at times you would think I was a vampire. I love the night time…I love the winter…I cant stand the sun…I dress in mostly black, my house is full of black furniture, and I tend to have a very dark sense of humor. I am getting so off track now of what I was saying. So here I was in the pits of hell (family get together), could cut the tension with a butter knife. But I survived!!!!! I even actually ate a hot dog…wonder what they would have thought if I had asked for a burger….bloody rare…hee/hee! We actually stayed a lot longer than I wanted too but for the fact that the hubby leaves in 3weeks and wont be home again for possibly 4 years I knew his family has the right to have that time with him. I knew his mother looked worried because she knows he is going back to Iraq again. The 1st time was bad enough but a 2nd time and this time doing patrols well that adds a bit extra of fear in everyone’s hearts. So I made myself stay. Although at one point I did turn to my hubby and whisper, “Get me the hell out of here!” We laughed and I let it slid until he was the one to say he was ready. So we are finally home and our baby Cato (our miniature Chihuahua) whom we never leave alone more than an hour or two and this time he was home for several hours. I knew we should have taken him but the hubby was afraid that he would be upset with all those people around. He isn’t very social; he is more of a very protective acting dog so hugs would have been out of the question. Now the hubby is playing games on the laptop with Cato snuggled in his lap. I love being back home with my baby and hubby all to myself. I guess you can say I am becoming more and more selfish with our time together. Tomorrow its visiting my parents, there I feel back in my own element. I think the hubby does as well. I know Cato loves seeing his grandparents and they love seeing their grand puppy. Well off here to check email and then snuggle up to the hubby as well. Hugggs

Hi Robin, Thanks for visiting my journal.  I thought I'd come by and check out yours.  It's always good to run across another military wife.  I think it's funny that you are switching from Navy to Army.  We are Army, but currently living on a Navy post.. and I am trying to adjust to the new acronyms that the Navy uses. We are only here for another 5 months and then we'll be back to the Army side of life. Anyway... :)  Good to "meet" you,  Estela http://journals.aol.com/easteeleco/Lasttimeatbat
