Yea ... Let's have another rainy day!

(Now, I can make a HUGE journal entry!)

For me, it's always been wonderful to have a rainy day ... so many years of working outside ... bringing home the bacon, working on the farm, making hay or whatever ... a rainy day has always been a wonderful thing!

Actually, since I was always chief-cook-bottlewasher & usually bring-home-the bacon-&-cook-it-too, the rainy day meant that I could attack the horror of my life inside the house ... all the housekeeping chores that had piled up!

FOR SEVERAL DAYS NOW (or more) ... because of the rainy &/ cold weather, I cannot paint the house, which has been using up all my time, energy, and back-capabilities  (see:  click  Backlog here .  So, yesterday ... I finally got all the sawdust vacuumed out of the frontroom after my chainsaw carpenter and I replaced those logs in the corner of the frontroom.

     SEE THE ENTRY BELOW:

ALSO, I GOT ALL THE TOOLS, ETC. OUT OF THE FRONTROOM, AND OFF THE DECK!

I made a list of the tools that have accumulated on the deck and in the frontroom over the last weeks on the fix-it projects for the house repair/painting:
  • CHAIN SAW
  • SKILL SAW
  • SABER SAW
  • MITER SAW
  • KEYHOLE SAW
  • 3-4 MORE HAND SAWS
  • HACKSAW
  • ELECTRIC GRINDER
  • ELECTRIC DRILL
  • BAG OF DRILL BITS
  • SANDER ATTACHMENT
  • PLANER
  • TWO BIG SQUARES
  • TWO CROW BARS
  • THREE HAMMERS
  • TWO PAINT SCRAPERS
  • TWO WIRE BRUSHES
  • TWO STAPLE GUNS
  • BOXES OF STAPLES
  • COOKIE SHEET OF ASST. NAILS
  • DOZEN OR SO CONTAINERS OF NAILS/SCREWS
  • PLUMB LINE
  • LEVEL
  • 25 FOOT HEAVY EXTENSION CORD.
  • ASST. SCREW DRIVERS
  • ASST. PLIERS & CUTTERS
  • ASST. PUTTY KNIVES
  • TWO CHISELS
  • CARPENTERS APRON
  • CAULKING GUN
  • MANY TUBES, EMPTY & FULL, OF CAULK
  • MANY PAINT CANS, EMPTY OR NOT
That's all that I can think of; I have most of it piled in kitchen, ready for me to haul down into the basement ... when I have the time & energy.... one or two more rainy days?         (I'm not done with the projects; around the patio door needs finishing, two concave corners need major caulking/repair,  and the replacementlogs need fillers/weather-proofing), and, maybe MORE PAINTING?

NEXT ... in case that's all I have time for ... here's some pictures of my beautiful U.P. ...

Here's my road going to town:

and ... here's some local trucks, too.

HOPING TO MAKE A QUICK REPORT ON MY PAINT PROJECT ...

Here's a before photo of the south side of the house, showing the bad siding boards.

AND ... the cracks and peeling paint that needed scraping.

HERE'S the primer coat going on.

I GOT CAUGHT ON CAMERA! How do you like my painter's cover-alls?  I'm the worlds messiest painter!

ALMOST DONE WITH THE TOP COAT

 TA ... DA ....!
MY STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE.!

HERE'S THE FINAL COAT OF 20 YEAR BENJAMIN MOORE PAINT ... My chosen "Guernsey cream" color ... with the strawberry-red roof.  The whipped cream white for the trim might have to wait until next year.

AT THE END  OF A WORKDAY ... who's gonna feed me? .... ME ...!

From many years of feeding ravenous helpers at the end of a looooong work day, and, feeding ravenous drunks who want to eat NOW ... I've developed techniques to get a delicious, stick-to-the-ribs meal on the table in seconds.  I've found out that I have no "wife" to do this ... so ... I freeze portion size food in zip-lock bags.  Quick nuke a potato or whip up extras ... Instant Gourmet!  I always called my Crockpot my "electric housewife" ... mmmmm... work hard all day ... and have a nice hot meal all ready!

Today, after doing the catchup thing ... I was hungry & miserable.  In the microwave, I heated up some delicious frozen turkey with some frozen gravy (too lazy to dig for turkey gravy- I used venison gravy) .... and some pre-cooked garden carrots.  I found some instant potatoes (too lazy to go dig some), added some frozen chicken stock cubes & frozen onion/carrot cookies for flavor.  I thawed out a chunk of chocolate cake to use with ice-cream for dessert ... but ... that will be for later.  My meal was yummy-delicioso ... and, for a beverage I had some hot toddies to relax my miserable back ... using MAPLE SYRUP for sweetener.  I had made this maple syrup last spring ....

Maybe ... soon ... I'll have some snow pix to show off.
I have many photos of my critters ready for a future entry here.  I just haven't had time for much with the paint project.  There is so much to do before winter covers everything with a 5 to 6 month cover of snow, and freezing things down ...I'm gunta pick up stuff & put things away.  I wanted to contact the Boy Scouts & maybe the 4-H to see if some kids wanted to share in the maple syrup project next spring ....

I'm kinda  bummed out.  I love gadgets; I hate malfunctioning stuff.  My "Dish Network" does not work on the frontroom T.V. (the guy cannot come to fix it until Nov. 1rst) ... therefore, I cannot flop down for a "sofa-break" for my back & flip on the T.V. (I cannot get any "local" stations here).
On my big computer ... my modem/sound card fritzed ... meaning that I cannot access the Internet from it.  I cleaned off my upstairs desk to bring my senior laptop upstairs.
Now, all I have to do is copy things from one computer to the next on  a write CD ... WHOOPIE!
I dump pix on one computer ... did I mention that the laptop does an "error" thingie on WORD files? ... and have to transfer things to the laptop to upload, since the big computer cannot right now.  When Maggie has an important college paper for me to proof ... there is a logistics problem.
I can creatively COPE ...THIS is bumming me out.  I only have one USB port on my laptop ... I can either use my CD write external drive OR my mouse!
PISSES ME OFF TO THE MAX!

DID I MENTION THAT NOW, MY BIG COMPUTER IS DOING ANOTHER WEIRD THING?  After several hours idling, it will freeze up & need to be shut down manually.  I have so many  gigibytes of photos & stuff that I cannot just easily back everything up.  I am working on sorting my photos and copying them onto CD's ... that will take all winter!

DID I MENTION THAT MY DUNE BUGGY DOESN'T WORK; I NEED IT TO MOVE STUFF AROUND ... TO SAVE MY BACK.

DID I MENTION THAT MY TRACTOR DOESN'T WORK; I NEED IT FOR LIFTING THINGS MY BACK OBJECTS TO.  With the death of my neighbor ... who did my driveway ... I must keep my driveway useable by myself.

DID I MENTION THAT MY CAR IS SORTA FIXED; it still needs a brake job.

DID I MENTION THAT MY PICK-UP TRUCK IS STILL PATIENTLY WAITING FOR A NEW STARTER?

DID I MENTION THAT MY CHIMNEY NEEDS REPAIR; I have free firewood to suppliment my gas-furnace heat.

DID I MENTION THAT SOCIAL-SECURITY-DISABILITY DOES NOT PAY AS WELL AS TRUCK-DRIVING?

DID I MENTION THAT I LOVE IT SO MUCH UP HERE IN THE NORTHWOODS ... GOD'S COUNTRY? ... THAT I WANT TO SHARE IT WITH THE WHOLE WORLD

DID I MENTION THAT I THANK GOD EVERY DAY THAT I AM HERE IN THE U.P.?

DID I MENTION THAT EVERYONE SHOULD VISIT THE U.P. IN PERSON... OR BY A VIRTUAL VISIT?

Stunning photos you've taken.  Lovin' the fall scenery from your area.  Breath taking.  And the kittens in the other entry...sweet.  Hope you were able to find good, loving homes for all of them.  :)
