MY HOLIDAY WEEKEND WAS GREAT; MY DAUGHTER DROVE  UP FROM MILWAUKEE TO VISIT.
click here for larger.  It was a pretty day for a drive; this shows how roads USED to be ... so you could take a "cool drive in the country".
We went to visit a friend up from Wisconsin whom we  hadn't seen for years ... bought some stuff from his Mom's estate sale.

(NOTE: there is an upcoming event celebrating this "Rum Rebellion" this summer.
)   The Iron County Museum in Iron River has opened for the season; that was really worth the time ... we hope to go back for a longer tour in the future... didn't view the buildings outdoors.

There was a marvelous lady who bragged that she was 91 years old ... & regularly walked a mile to work at the museum.  She showed us the "Carrie Jacobs Bond" home & related how she helped the repair of some "fancywork" such as this table runner here.  She had helped pick out the new wallpaper ... & was one of the major workers when the heart-breaking water damage from a frozen pipe occured.  She said that they dedicated one of the rooms to the local school; the kids had come & donated their time to save what could be saved from the water damage.  It sounds as tho it were an unbelievable project!

This model ship has special meaning for me.  I had made a journal entry about the Wilfred Sykes.
Read how I am connected with this ship:

click for larger ... I have this as "wallpaper" right now
Maggie & I took a short drive to the other side of the river.  Our 40 is not on the river ... over a 40 from it.  Here, she is, taking pictures (must run in the family?)
I JUST HAVE TO TELL YOU THIS BLONDE JOKE:

A blonde was enjoying a walk in the woods.  She came to a river ... thought she'd just have to turn around & come back.  THEN, she saw another blonde on the other side of the river.
The first blonde yelled across the river, "How can I get on the other side of the  river?"
The second blonde yelled back, "You ARE on the other side of the river!"

MY DISPATCHER, WHEN I WAS TRUCKING, LOVED BLONDE JOKES ... THIS ONE HE REALLY LIKED.  WHENEVER I'D CALL IN, HE JUST HAD TO MAKE THE CRACK, " DID YOU GET TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER, YET?"
BACK HOME ... WE TOOK A WALK IN THE WOODS.  There is a logging trail that the loggers made extra nice for us when they were logging here several years ago.
click for larger picture.  Starting out, a deer responded by raising its head & looking at us when I called out to it.
Just behind the house is a lovely patch of Trilliums that bloom every spring.

The dogs came with us on our walk.  Look closely ... what's that on Mimi's chin?  Click upon the picture to zoom in .... wood-ticks!
We'd better check Sam, too.

The loggers had saved several trees

that I requested, just because the trees

were so unique. (They had also saved

me quite a few Maple Syrup trees.)

   THESE LITTLE TREES HAD BEEN

SPROUTS FROM THE BIG TREE,

THENJOINED & GREW TOGETHER.

  I CALL THESE THE "KISSING

TREES".

I took these pictures at Maple-Syruping time ... this looks as tho more than kissing is going on:

Is this an obcene gesture?

My latest-greatest way to fritter away time is

Click here: YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.     This is an index of my little videos.

Maybe because it's just after the holiday & YouTube is clogged up ??? I've been trying several days to upload another video ... this one Maggie took of me driving the John Deere.

We went into Crystal Falls ... I was sad to see that they had finished tearing down this old building.  I always thought it would make a unique "Western Saloon" or shop.  To me, it looks as tho it had been a feed mill?

Several years ago ... near there ... "they" had torn down an old drive-in restaurant.

Ralph sent me the history of the "Rum Rebellion".
I worked on a ship like the Sykes on the Great Lakes.
    Cute blonde joke.
I hated ticks on the dog.
I remember the drive in. I used to take my kids there for ice cream.
    Thanks for another great entry.

Sounds like you had a good time.

I wasn't able to visit your blog last month because we were short of bandwidth.
