QUOTE:
"I seem to remember my teachers telling us kids some story about how the county courthouse ended up in Crystal and IR lost out. Something about a card game, I think. Oh, how I love those stories of our very human past!! Crystal sure did right by designing such a regal building."

At the time Iron County was created, Iron River (then the only incorporated village in the area) was designated as the county seat. However, rivalry soon developed between the east (Crystal Falls) and the west (Iron River) as to where the county building should be located, and a four-year dispute ensued. Both sides resorted to tricks to secure the county seat. Most infamous is the “theft” of the county records, clandestinely moved by east siders from Iron River to Crystal Falls on a winter’s night in 1887.
Another rumor that is part of the legend ( I cannot find the quote again) is that the sheriff himself was part of that card game that was to make sure no one found out about moving the records that night.

 See ... I REALLY am a BLOGGER!

Such an interesting election ... the media have been  actually helping this time.  I don't see (yet?) a lot of those corrosive ads as last election. Maybe because I cannot get regular T.V., just DISH network news? What I do see are alot of newscasters & interview programs having a candidate respond to questions instead of just a prepared speach or slick production spot.
I, & many others had never heard of some of these candidates.  Without an in-depth knowlege of Mike Huckabee ... I must say that every time I've seen/heard him ... he is very dignified, yet approachable & concerned.  He is knowedgeable & experienced in government.
A recent statement of his made an impression upon me.  He stated that all the other present candidates had experience in government as senators who voted upon individual issues ... but, never had to live with the results & make them work
.
ON THE OTHER HAND, HUCKABBEE, AS A GOVERNOR, HAS HAD EXPERIENCE IN RUNNING A STATE & MAKING EVERYTHING WORK SMOOTHLY.  HE SAYS THAT A STATE IS A MICRO-ORGANISM OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.
In these years of crisis at home & abroad ... we do need someone with that experience.  Perhaps, I would feel more comfortable with the two Democratic candidates in future elections ... but, not this one.

I voted in the Michigan primary ... ended up voting for Huckabee.  It was a hard choice.  He finished third, behind Romney & McCain.  McCain ... I'd be comfortable voting for  him ... he's just not my top choice right now.

Still reading.

It's going more slowly than I'd thought; I usually have to renew the books at least once.  I'm not sure what I do with my time???

My favorite books are the centennial books that a lot of the towns, big & small, had printed up for their centennials.  These books have  many photos & lists of names particular to that area & era.  Era ... because many of these were give or take 50 years ago ... and ... are of themselves a HISTORY book.

FOR A CHANGE OF PACE ... not reading, but, a site where you can listen to music of your choice on a "JUKEBOX".

Lovely pictures as usual. I see the lame deer is still around. Bless her heart. It's hard making it through the winter without that handicap. I don't care for either of the Democrats running. Helen
