"9th time this summer that it's been 80 or above"
WOW!   I'm sure that makes some people chuckle that we complain about that!

We've had such strange weather.  Sunday. I did some lawn mowing.  The  day started out  overcast, chilly, damp.  Okay ... so I can mow the lawn & not have to complain about working up such a sweat.  I got started mowing.  The sun came out ... so ... I tried staying in the shade as much as possible.  The sky became overcast, & it cooled down.  The sun came raging back.  This repeated several times.  When the final "over-cast" morphed into rain drops ... I gave up mowing for the day.
Had it been nicer out, I might have gone into Crystal Falls for the Bass Festival ... talked myself out of that, too.  Friday .... I should have gone to see the boxing tournament at Nylunds ... I hear it was great.  Someone called into Telephone Time to report that.  Saturday, I should have gone in for the parade in the morning, or, at least the
politically incorrect "Wop-Swede" baseball game in the evening.  (During the upcoming Humungus Fungus Fest, they will have the politically incorrect "Finn-Polack" baseball game).

I'd love to get to this organ concert.  The organ at the Theatre has beenrestored; it is the "largest North of Milwaukee".

It's been a repeat of that cycle of sun & unexpected showers each day.  I'm doing my mowing on the installment plan ... getting done slowly.  I've even done some work in my flower beds ... tomatoes are next.
OKAY  ... I've been putzing around, doing this entry for long enough; final touches.  Today, I did some more weed-whacking; the grass has become too much to want to abuse my "new" lawn-mower".  From years of making hay & other outdoors work ... I could tell that this overcast was about to turn into a bad rain.  I just had time to put my toys away, feed the cats in the Gunta Shed, & get the mail ... barely made it inside the house before the rains came.  For hours, there was a drenching rain with "donder & blitzen".

NEEDLESS TO SAY ... I WAS PRETTY SURE THAT THE OUTDOOR CONCERT IN CRYSTAL FALLS ON THE RIVERWALK WAS CANCELLED.  Perhaps, they'll have to have a back-up plan in case of rain ... a rain date ... or a quick switch to an indoor place .... maybe, the VFW, Nylunds, the school?

Some people stopped in today ... the always genial Jehovah's Witnesses.  I love their little pamphlets to read.  The one fellow ( I can never remember names) said that he had tried to access this AOL journal.  He said that they typed in the correct url ... like ... it ALMOST was there, but, they could never see anything.  I just feel so badly about that; I have the same problem when I try to visit some other journals.  THE PROBLEM IS A SLLLOOOOOW CONNECTION & I JUST PUT TOO MANY PICTURES, ETC. INTO EACH ENTRY.  I told him I just reload the page innumerable times ... or ... if I click upon ARCHIVES when all that loads is the header ... I can possibly get just the one entry to load.

Because I have free week-end minutes on my cell-phone, I do a lot of jabbering on the phone to friends & relatives all over the U.S.  For the ones in the South, I was bragging today that the temperature was just in the high 50's.   They can keep their brutal heat!  I try to keep the family aware of what others in the family are doing.  Mom herself has  nearly 70 descendents ... then, her sisters & their families!   But, on week-ends, I get a lot of answer machines.  The main reason that I started this AOL Journal was to provide a way to have others in my family to have a "virtual-visit" to me here ... I'm too far away from everyone ... everyone is so busy.

MY JOURNAL COLORS: MAYBE YOU NOTICED THAT I CHANGED THE COLOR SCHEME ON THIS JOURNAL FROM GREEN TO "SKY BLUE" ...  The green I used  because of wishful thinking this spring.  But, along about now, green becomes just a bit revolting ... one gets tired of green ... 75 different shades of green!  We are like in an ocean of green.  The book I read recently expresses this, too.

The author, Coralie Cederna Johnson grew up in Iron River.
In  "A Tree Grows in Trout Creek" , she echoes a statement I often make about "we're in an ocean of trees".  She wrote about disliking a family excursion up to relatives in TROUT CREEK, because all there was for scenery on the way there was trees, trees, & more trees.  Then, to top it all off ... her Grandfather (who was visiting from Minnesota) was bringing a grand gift up there to them ... coffee cans with baby trees from Minnesota?
It completely baffled her, as a very young girl, as to why this was so important ... bringing baby trees to people who were already surrounded by trees!

In August a grand-daughter is getting  married; weddings mean wedding-presents.  I almost whoopsied & put down here what I've planned for a wedding present.
In Crystal Falls, the Ben Franklin Store is the perfect place to find the special crafting items for the project.  They are well stocked crafting supplies.

THIS IS THE SOFA THAT I GOT FOR FREE AT AN ESTATE SALE.  I told the lady I'd sure love to have that "free sofa" ... but, didn't know how to get it home.  She said, "There's a guy coming tomorrow who could bring it out to you."
I asked how much he'd charge; she replied, "He wouldn't charge anything; that's my husband; I'll tell him to bring it out!"  And he did & put it right here.

LOOK WHAT CAME TO VISIT.

This is my "must-see" news program:

I'm so glad that I was listening on the program, where he had a former Shell Oil president on, who explained why the oil companies "have oil leases that they have never drilled on".
It made such sense; mining companies are the same way; they need to get leases, permits, etc. before they can even first begin finding out if there will ever be any actual mine there.

Neither Glenn nor I had had a clue about that reason, UNTIL we heard that the oil companies buy up leases so they can explore the area for possible oil drilling.  The oil companies, yes, they do have the leases that they still hold, but it is just not feasible to bring any oil to market from them.

BECK: I don`t know how they do it with a straight facein Washington, I really don`t. Coming up, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says the oil companies should start using the land they already have to drill for oil. Well, I heard that this morning. I was like, yes, that`s a good point, until I did five minutes of research.

The problem, Harry, is you can`t drill for oil where there is none or you won`t allow them to drill where there is oil. Crazy, isn`t it? What is it going to take for Congress to stop wasting our time and solving these problems? Well, find out in tonight`s "Real Story."

Whew! 80's sounds cool compared to the 90's here. Here it's calling 93 for Sat and 96 for Monday. Dry as a bone here also. I have been watering my flowers daily for two months now. I hate to see this months water bill. They will probably put a water ban on us next month. Then all my flowers will die. Yes, I am sure it takes a long time to access your journal on dialup. I have had people say it takes a long time on my journal to come up who are still on dial up. Have a nice weekend Lois. Helen
