Low Tides & Open Clam Season

There are low tides on Washington beaches this week and clam season is open.  Bob went with some friends, yesterday to a local beach and got his limit of yummy butter (steamer) clams.  After soaking them in a bucket of salt water overnight, we had them for dinner tonight.  After scrubbing their shells with a brush, I plopped them into a big pan of buttery water, brought it to a boil and let them simmer for about 10 mins after their shells pop open.

I melted butter, added a little garlic powder and we were ready to dip and eat clams.   I did cook a big pan of fresh broccoli to go along with the clams to counteract the butter consumption.  LOL

P.S. the limit is 40 clams or 8 pounds per day during the open season.

Hmmm I have never had clams.  Michael just had them for the first time and he said he LOVED them.  I guess I will have to try them one day.  Anything dipped in butter has to be good.  :)   Loved the pics, that was cool seeing the process.

Although I prefer oysters, I love clams too. I didn't know there was a limit on them.

We can pick clams at any time that we can reach them - which is not often.

Linda, now you did it. I will be off to track down some clams. I have a weakness fotr them and they are my favorite. Trouble is I can only buy a bag of fifty and can't find anyone to share them with.
The brocolli looked a little blured but that is OK bevause I won't eat it anyhow.
Wish I haad a clam beach near here. Bill

I love Washington state, as I think I mentioned my sister lives close to Portland. Now with my son moving out there I can see traveling more in my future. I think the diversity of the rivers, the ocean and the mountains just bring out the beauty of nature for me. My hubby hates the cold and would move further south if I let him...he's like a darn iguana..lol.  I like a climate that changes...oh, well I will just have to visit snow..love your pictures....love, Sandi
