Has anybody here seen my old friend Abraham?
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good they die young.

When I was a little girl, my sister had the 45 of this song. When I was old enough to understand, it always made me sad. How odd to realize that Reverend King was only 39 when he was killed, and Bobby Kennedy only 42. John Kennedy was 46, and Lincoln was 56. All quite young by today's standards, and I am older than King and Bobby Kennedy were when they died.
I've written numerous times about what kind of legacy we leave and how we will be remembered. Each of these men left a profound and long-lasting impression on our history, culture, and society, much longer than any of their lives. Each of them accomplished great things in the short time they were on earth. While most of us aren't quite of that caliber, we can resolve to do the best we can in order to leave a positive and lasting legacy within our own little circle of influence. My parents are still with us (happily), but I can say that I know they will leave a positive "footprint" on many lives, including mine and Ken's. While we might never achieve greatness, we can certainly aspire to the good, and to fond remembrance.

CNN is going to have a special on MLK and i have it ready to record. I think on Sunday. I have ached that we lost Bobby because if i had been born 20 yrs earlier than when i was, i would have voted for him if he had not been murdered.
