So have you all read about the big hooraw over Howard Stern's latest idiocy?
He took portions of one of Dolly Parton's audio books and mixed them so that it sounds like she is saying some truly foul things, both racist and sexually graphic.
Y'know, I've always been against excessive censorship. I'm a firm believer in the if you don't like it don't listen/watch/read it philosophy. No one is forcing you to listen to a particular radio station, no one is strapping you to the couch without a remote so that you have to watch something objectionable, and I'm certainly not doing that voodoo that I do and compelling you to read this journal if you don't care for it. I've found Howard Stern funny at times, and I have even defended his right to wage his own brand of comedy.
But this time he's gone too far. I listened to part of it, and it was so not funny that I didn't even play the whole thing. I don't get into Dolly's music all that much, although I think she's a great performer, and I think she's very talented. (And who can forget her role as Doralee Rhodes in "Nine To Five"?) I've also heard that she is incredibly down-to-earth and gracious, and by all accounts, a very likable and kind person. For him to do this to someone as cool as Dolly is extremly uncool, and as much as I abhor our nation's love affair with litigation, our tendency to run to a lawyer at every perceived slight, and our belief that it's okay use the legal system as a way to cash in on our own stupidity, I hope Dolly opens up a can of legal whupass on Howard the likes of which he's never seen.
Or as Doralee said to her slimy boss (the great Dabney Coleman), "Up until now I've been forgivin' and forgettin' because of the way I was brought up, but I'll tell you one thing. If you ever say another word about me or make another indecent proposal, I'm gonna get that gun of mine, and I'm gonna change you from a rooster to a hen with one shot! And don't think I can't do it."
Go get him, Dolly!

I've always liked Howard. He is a fellow Long Islander, we share that.
And being that I havent heard his latest skit with Dolly, I cant comment about it...where can I hear it? Or is it pulled already.
I think making fun of people CAN be funny, but it sounds like once again Howard went overboard.
PS I havent listened to him in years, I now support The O & A Virus !

I hope she cleans up on this one. It's about time Stern was taken down a few notches after having enjoyed immunity for so long for his actions while hiding behind the First Amendment!

You go girl! I got bashed because I couldn't resist leaving a comment after a news story about Howard's nasty faux pas. I love Dolly Parton and I dislike Howard Stern, so I may be biased. I like her music. Where I grew up, we only had a couple of AM stations and all that they played was country music. My mother was a big fan of Loretta Lynn and I grew up listening to country on the radio and R&B on the record player.
I agree with your assessment of the Stern mess. I tried to listen and found it not at all funny. I 've read all these comments online with people talking about first amendment rights but they have it wrong. The first amendment doesn't support slander, defamation of character , or libel. I hope Dolly sues his ass off!--Sheria -
I have never liked Howard Stern personally. Everyone has thier own likes and dislikes. I love Dolly's music. I have all her CD's. I didnt see or hear the show but it sounds like something he would do. ...Christine
