forty days since i saw her

since the day she waved goodbye

forty days i've been laughing

just so i don't cry.

forty days since i heard her

sweet voice call my name

forty days i've been smiling

so i don't go insane,

forty days.

    every moment we're apart

i've got an aching in my heart

i've got a longing in my soul

    i wonder if she knows...

forty days i've been walking

lonely circles around this town

forty days i've been talking

to the gravel on the ground.

forty days in the desert

forty days in the wild

forty days in twenty first century

america exiled,

forty days.
