Helens Surgery Update (3rd day)
I am glad to report we have Helen back home. She is in quite a bit of pain but, thank goodness for some good drugs. We made the 65 mile trip without hitting every pothole along the way.
Here is a God sent happening. Last night at the cafateria, the nurse that had assisted Dr. Wilson in the operating room recognized Mira ( Helen's daughter) so they sat together. She was able to tell Mira lots about the actual surgery. She said Helen had a right to be in pain now because Dr. Wilson had done some big time work on her back. She said you would not believe the huge bone spurs and the amount of scar tissue he took out and laid on the tray. He cleared everything from around the problem nerve and decompressed two disk. The nurse also said it may take months for Helen to really reap the full benefits of the surgery. The nerves have to realize they are no longer being pinched.
I ask Helen when I started down to her computer if she wanted me to tell ya'll anything. She said yes tell them "THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the prayers.
It will be awhile before she can get back into the swing of things But, I assure you she will be back. Thanks to all of you.....Fish Hook's Husband

Helen's Surgery Update (2nd day)
Lets see if I remember how to do this again. I went back to the hospital early this morning. I had hoped to bring Helen home today. But, she had a real painful night and her left leg was giving her some problems. Dr. Wilson came in while I was there and he said he wanted to keep her another day and get some physical therapy started. As much as I would like to have her home, her daughter and I felt that was best also. He plans to have some in home physical therapy once she is home. Her daughter is staying with her.
Helen is hanging in there like an old rusty fish hook. She says"Hi" to everyone and thank you for the prayers. Thanks.....Ken

Helen's surgery update
This is my third and last attempt at updating this journal. Helen gave me a crash course in how to do this. But, last night I tired twice to do it and both times either me or the system messed up, (most likely me).
Helen's back surgery went great. The surgery took about 1 1/2 hours. After he finished, Dr. Wilson came out and told us he had removed some bone spurs and scar tissue that had been pressing on a nerve. He went on to say that after she recovers from the surgery itself, she should have a much better quality of life. That sounded wonderful to me. She has suffered more pain than anyone should have to.
They did her surgery at about 10 AM and by about 3 PM they had her up walking to the bathroom. Her daughter stayed in the room with her last night. I came on home to take care of things here (mostly to make sure our little dogs were OK).
I want to thank all of you for your concern and thoughts and most of all your prayers (for both of us). The friendship that Helen has with you people through this journal means the world to her. She is always telling me about some of ya'll just as if you were family.
As soon as it gets daylight so I can see to drive, I will be headed back to Birminghan. I hope she can come home today.
WE HAD A BLESSED DAY YESTERDAY....Ken
Now I hope all this typing doesn't disappear when I hit save....

Hoping for a new beginning
Sometime tomorrow morning is the day for my back surgery. The hospital will call today to tell me a time to be there. I had some requests to do a reminder entry when the time got closer. I am hoping for a new beginning of being pain free or at least not nearly as much pain as I have been having. I will be going to Saint Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham Alabama for the surgery.
If I do ok after surgery in the morning then they will have me up walking that afternoon. Then if I am still doing ok they will start physical therapy on Wednesday morning. I am thinking they probably show me some exercises. If I am doing ok then I can come home on Wednesday. If not then I will be there a few more days. They have already told me to take it easy for three weeks afterwards, to walk around some and not lift over five pounds. I am going to follow instructions
to a T.
I want to takethis opportunity to once again thank everyone for your prayers and good thoughts. I will ask all of you to please keep remembering me in your prayers and good thoughts for a safe surgery and a fast healing time. I am thanking you all in advance. I have no idea how long it will be until I can do another post.
Love and hugs to you all.
Have a blessed week everyone.
Helen

Feeling Confused
Sorry but the last two entry's were deleted
Seeing as I deleted the last two entry's here some people didn't know what was going on. I finally got the blogger address to working right. The url has a 2 in it but when I pull up the blog itself my journal title doesn't have the two. Awww well, Since all this change is going to start the day of my back surgery I may not be able to work on anything more and may have to just let this AOL journal go. I have been sitting too much trying to get things up and going so I will just ease up on doing much more to it. Anyway this is what I ended up with instead of deleting the whole thing and starting again so as not to lose my followers
New address link--http://madcobug-myeverydaylife2.blogspot.com/ I hope it does ok if not please let me know. Helen

Has anyone watched this?
This is very interesting. Someone sent this video to Ken in an email. I wonder if it could be true. If so it would be wonderful.
Very, very interesting!
In January of this year, at a meeting of the Engineers Club of Sun City, Arizona, A.P.S. ( the local power company) gave a presentation in which they explained their plans to build such a plant (as described in the video) south of Phoenix, near Gila Bend. They were very upbeat about it's possibilities. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel!
Take a look at this video and pay particular attention to the last statement made.

Feeling Hopeful
Not long now

Graphic by Sugar
The nights and days are getting cooler here in Alabama these last few days, I love it. It won't be long until the leaves will start changing here if they do change because it has been so dry here this summer. We haven't had any rain whatsoever the last few weeks. We need some rain badly.

The Dr's office called one day this week and said my surgery was scheduled for Tues. the 7th of Oct. I am dreading it of course but I am also looking forward to it, just praying that it will ease some of this pain. I know it will be a fairly long recovery because I have been through this before. I just hope there will be some pain meds I can take because they all make me sick but hopefully they can give me something that can counteract that.
Thanks for all your prayers and good wishes that you expressed in my last entry. Keep them up please and thanks a bunch.

Have a blessed weekend everyone. Hugs to you all, Helen

Feeling Chillin'
One of those sleepless night
Just one of those sleepless nights and I just gave it up for a while.
This is the last of pears of the season. This tree was really loaded and Ken hauled a lot off to a dumpster and gave a couple of bags away. Not if I wasn't down in this back and was not a diabetic and both my children were not then I would have made a lot of pear preserves for everyone. This was the largest crop this tree has ever had. On the ones that fell baby bumble bees covered them up if they were not picked up immediately. Ken had to be really careful and he did get stung once but a paste made of meat tenderizer took care of that with no swelling occurring. (bet you didn't know that was good for stings did you?)One morning after the winds blew from Ike he picked up sixty in one picking.

I see it's after midnight here now so everyone enjoy the fist day of fall. May you have a blessed Monday. Helen

Feeling Hopeful
Good and hopefully better
Hi everybody, well some good news about Ken. He went back to his heart Dr. Monday and he said everything looks good. He cut two of his heart meds down in dosage. Told him to come back in three months. Said the heart attack was from all the stress he was under after that last surgery was done when he was in ICU.
Now on to me. I had the MRI done and took them with me today when I went to see the neurosurgeon. He said it showed where there were two ruptured disk above the fusion I had done many years ago and that they were pushing into the spinal canal and narrowing it. One severe and one not as bad. He said he could make about a three or four inch incision and trim off the bulging disks and let the pressure off the narrowing places. He couldn't guarantee it would help the pain I am having but there was a 75 to 85% chance that it would. He said there was a chance that by removing those places the spine could collapse later and require another fusion. I am willing to take those chances. He said an overnight stay in the hospital if everything went ok and I didn't get infection. You get to a point with this pain that you are willing to do something to try to help. I will hear from the office in two or three weeks when it will be done. The surgery will be done in a hospital in a larger city than where we live.
Please remember me in your prayers and good thoughts. Thanks in advance.
Hugs and love to you all. Helen
