Storm Damage At My Daughters Home In GA

Hi everyone, Just thought I would go the AOL way of showing some of the storm damage in my daughter's yard and in some neighbor's yards.

She called a while ago and said everything has been turned back on.

She also said she believes two tornadoes went over one right after the other. She heard the roaring twice, one just seconds after the other. Almost like it had changed gears. She said she asked God to let it lift up and not hit any houses. She said today the leaves are dying where they were broken and she looked up at the tree where her SUV sat under it and could see where limbs were dying that had broken and not come down on her car. She said she heard on the news where these tornadoes left a path for 25 miles.
God was good to her. He spared her life and her property.

I pray for the ones who did lose their homes and properties. One life was taken, I pray for that family.

Have a blessed night,
 Helen

Feeling Quiet

Our Day

Good afternoon everybody, here it is the day after Mother's day already. I had a great Mother's day. I had a scare very early in the morning from my daughter's behalf. A tornado had ripped through her town very early. Her apartment and life was spared. Thank God. It snapped off several trees and uprooted them in her yard. She was still without power last night and I haven't heard from her today.

Ken, my daughter, my son and and his wife and I all had a wonderful dinner and fellowship provided by all of us. I got some wonderful presents from all. No one wanted to have their pictures taken but my daughter insisted that she get a picture of Ken and me. So here we are.

I wanted to add some of the storm damage to the trees but Flickr will not upload for me at this time so here are a couple of flower pictures. Flickr is where I store my pictures. I went through AOL Pictures for the above picture.

Have a blessed afternoon everyone. Helen

PS to the entry.

My daughter  just called and said that the children were not at school today but the teachers were so they let them out early. She said one of the teachers said she saw probably over 100 homes destroyed on her way to work this morning. She said her power came on about midnight last night but no cable so no phone, no computer.

True Blue

I just got almost finished with an entry and lost it so here I go again.

We got some rain and thunder here last night but nothing bad although there were warnings all around us. We were spared one more time.

Here are some blue for you to enjoy. I only got one shot off of this male eastern Bluebird.

Have a blessed day everyone, Helen

10 tips on Landscape Photography-

10 Really Good Landscape Photography Tips

Dead center
I have noticed a tendency among new photographers, and some older ones to center the main subject every shot. Try some different compositions and positions. Finish the shot. Don't be in a hurry.

Simplify the photo
A lot of scenic/landscape photos are just plain busy. In an effort to cram every detail in, we lose sight of the main attraction. Emphasize the main point and eliminate the unimportant. Less is more

Have a blessed day everyone. Helen

More flowers

Good evening everyone, Since I haven't been out anywhere lately to take any pictures I will just share these flowers pics I made here at home. I will have more in a day or two if you care to see them just drop on by.

After the rain. This is a volunteer Poppy.

After the sun dried it off.

Another Apple blossom. Not the Granny Smith but I have no idea what kind it is.

This is a Lily Of The Valley, it is not really green but this is the color the picture came out with. I did not have the white balance on but I really liked this green effect. In fact I have it on as a background on my computer now.

Have a blessed night everyone. Helen

Ken's note to his email buddies

Hello,
Retirement is great. It would be much more enjoyable if we had more money and gas wasn't close to $4 a gallon. So, in order to cope with things as they are, a few months back Helen and I got rid of our two vehicles and bought a new car. This car gets great gas mileage, has a good warranty and should be the last car we will ever have to buy. (Click here)
It has been nice with no car payment, only one vehicle to insure, and only one small gas tank to keep filled. But, the problem is I started missing my truck. After hearing all my whinning and moaning last week my sweet wife agreed that I could get me a new truck.(Click here)

Three Years Journaling

Good Morning to all my friends. Today is the third year anniversary of starting my journal. I have met many wonderful people since I first started my journal. I have asked for many prayers and good thoughts during this time in times of trouble and everyone has responded tremendously. I have come to know many of you and your families and it seems like I have known you for many years. I have thoroughly enjoyed my online friendships with all of you and love to visit your journals and love for you to visit mine and I love to read the comments you leave. I want to thank each one of you for your friendships. I also want to thank you all for wishing Ken a Happy Birthday on the twenty second of this month, the last entry I made. Ken says thanks to all of you and that he appreciated every wish that was left for him.

I had  a very hard time learning to put pictures in my journal when I first started it. Thanks to Carlene and her daughter for helping me on that. Now we don't use the same way to insert individual photos for it was a little complicated to do it that way but that was the only way we knew to do it.

Dad, Mary, and Princess from Dad's Tomato Garden Journal were the first ones to leave a comment to welcome me to J-land. I have grown to love them since then and I visit his entry almost everday since then. He has his tomatoes in the ground already and I look forward to watching his tomatoes grow. If you will please visit his journal and leave him a comment. He loves comments and prints each one. He is 94 years old and still doing great. I know several of you already visit with him. He has started a new project of getting everyones smiles. He postes them in his picture album.

Here is the first picture I learned to put in my Journal. It is from several years ago during the peak of our camping and fishing days.

Have a blessed day everyone and thanks again for your friendships. Helen

Hearing Birds singing

Ken's Birthday and other things

Good evening everybody, I almost let today slip by without mentioning Ken's Birthday which is today. Happy Birthday Ken.

He spent part of his day helping me plant some tomato plants. Not many but I think it will be enough (I hope) to do the two of us and anyone who happens to come for a visit when or if they get ripe. I just hope it doesn't turn dry and hot like it was last summer. One of them I am looking forward to watching grow or I should say two of them but only one like this got planted today. The other will get planted tomorrow I hope. It is the Topsy Turvy upside down tomato that you see advertized on TV. We called all over town yesterday and only one place had any of the pots and that was Target's. We got the last two they had. The plant we put in this one is one of those tomatoes tomato or the salad tomato. It is not hanging on the ground as it appears to be but is several feet high. We hung it on the edge of the porch so I could hopefully reach it to water it.

This is a new flower for me to try growing. It is an annual called Kalanchoe. Sounds like a Native American Indian name to me. I got it weekend before last. The reason behind getting it was because I am hoping it will draw in some butterflies because they like orange colors. The leaves are thick and does show the water spots from watering. Oh, my aching back.

Have a blessed night everyone. Helen
