Ken's Birthday and other things
Good evening everybody, I almost let today slip by without mentioning Ken's Birthday which is today. Happy Birthday Ken.
He spent part of his day helping me plant some tomato plants. Not many but I think it will be enough (I hope) to do the two of us and anyone who happens to come for a visit when or if they get ripe. I just hope it doesn't turn dry and hot like it was last summer. One of them I am looking forward to watching grow or I should say two of them but only one like this got planted today. The other will get planted tomorrow I hope. It is the Topsy Turvy upside down tomato that you see advertized on TV. We called all over town yesterday and only one place had any of the pots and that was Target's. We got the last two they had. The plant we put in this one is one of those tomatoes tomato or the salad tomato. It is not hanging on the ground as it appears to be but is several feet high. We hung it on the edge of the porch so I could hopefully reach it to water it.
This is a new flower for me to try growing. It is an annual called Kalanchoe. Sounds like a Native American Indian name to me. I got it weekend before last. The reason behind getting it was because I am hoping it will draw in some butterflies because they like orange colors. The leaves are thick and does show the water spots from watering. Oh, my aching back.
Have a blessed night everyone. Helen

I am a little puzzled about that first photo as I dont see how the plant is staying planted! It is topsy turvey indeed. Gerry

Happy B-day to Ken! My grandfather would love your garden and he'd probably share tips with you. He always kept a beautiful flower and vegetable garden. He had the touch! Oh, and his wife's name and my precious grandmother, well its Helen, LOL. Guess that is why I love reading your journal. You remind me a bit of them. God Bless!
