The JETS open up the new NFL season at home this weekend as the New England Patriots come to town.  Here is my preview.

JETS OFFENSE vs. Patriots Defense

The JETS offense faces a lot of questions as we head closer to this game.  Chad Pennington has struggled in the preseason, Thomas Jones is about to come back from an injury that has sidelined him for the preseason, and rookie Jacob Bender is starting as the JETS said goodbye to Pete Kendall during the preseason.  Luckily for the JETS, the Patriots have their fair share of questions as well now that they won't have Richard Seymour and Rodney Harrison for a while.  The Patriots though have overcome stuff like this before.  The absence of both players will help both the JETS running game and passing game if the JETS can take advantage of it.  The key for the JETS is to run the ball against the Patriots.  If they can do that the JETS can win this game, just like they did last year.  If the JETS can't run then they may be in trouble, because we don't know what to expect from Chad Pennington

EDGE: Patriots

JETS DEFENSE vs. Patriots Offense

The JETS will be going up against an improved Patriots offense.  The Patriots stockpiled receivers as they picked up Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth and Wes Welker.  The JETS need to do two things if they want to stop this revamped offense.  They need to stop the Patriots running game.  If they can stop the Patriots running game, then the Patriots will be a one-dimensional offense.  This is bad for the Patriots, especially when the chemistry between Tom Brady and the new receivers may not be there yet.  The second thing is to put pressure on Tom Brady.  When the JETS put pressure on Tom Brady in the game that they won, they were successful

EDGE: Even

This game is going to be really close.  I expect this game to come down to a last minute field goal.  I think Eric Mangini and the JETS are going to be well prepared for this game as they are going to seek revenge against the team that eliminated them last season.  The JETS will pull off the upset.

Prediction: JETS 24  Patriots 21
