Groovy, Baby! (Hippie Word of the Day)

Hair: The American Tribal Love Rock Musical: the definitive play and movie about the hippie culture. The book and lyrics were written by Gerome Ragni and James Rado. The play was produced by Michael Butler, with music by Galt MacDermot. It opened in New York City at the Baltimore Theatre in 1967 and eventually played extensive runs in most major cities in the United States and throughout the world. Hair is the most successful venue in communicating hippie ideals, but, like so much of the counterculture's commentary, it was too satirical, ironic, and sacrilegious for most conservative sensibilities.
