Hearing Pop eating his food
THE CAVALRY IS COMING!

I took Ma and Pop to the doctors today for their six month check-up. Ma is in great shape. Pop, of course, has issues. Dr. Rein noticed right away because he was really agitated while he was there and trying to yell over her voice when she was talking to Ma. She made me feel much better by agreeing that I did the right thing in not taking him to the hospital if he didn't want to go as (like I said) there really isn't anything they can do for a stroke once it's happening.
She also suggested that it was time for us to take the next step and get hospice involved. She said most people associate it with terminal cancer patients, but it's really for anyone who is in the last stages of life. It's set up so that the patient can remain comfortably at home during this time.
We fought so long to get money from the Department of Aging and then had to be so creative with how to spend that monthly allotment of $500 that I was weary from the moment Dr. Rein started talking about Hospice. Since Medicare covers 100% of Hospice I immediately began imagining the hoops they would make us jump through to prove eligible for it! However, it's based on need of care rather than income and all they needed was a call from Dr. Rein. In fact, I got a call from them before we even got home from the Dr. Rein's office and both our new caseworker and a registered nurse are coming out to do the paperwork and physically evaluate him TOMORROW. Then, they meet with us to see what kind of care we want. We will have nurses, aides, respite workers, and social workers all at our disposal.
This means that both Ma and I are going to start getting the right amount of sleep. This means I can get her out of the house as muchas she feels she needs or wants to go. It means I don't have to be creative about figuring out how I'm going to be able to go places and do things I want to do. It means things are going to get a lot better.
Dare I hope? Because it sounds way too good to be true, doesn't it?

How fantastic, you are all going to get the care you deserve. It will happen, it should happen. You have done so much, so long, and now is that time you did not do it all alone. Millie :)
