Hearing The birds chirping in the backyard...
Having A Buffy Moment

I'm lying on my back after spending the entire day doing something I typically put off until the last minute: INCOME TAXES!!!
Ok, well I got mine done, anyway. It only took me five hours using Turbo Tax. Last year I did the taxes as soon as we got all our forms for some reason and it only took me an hour to do mine AND Ma & Pop's. Obviously things have changed a bit, eh? I think this is why I was putting it off for so long. I was afraid this would happen. I was afraid that something as ridiculously easy as Turbo Tax would end up being a challenge.
And it was. But I THE CONQUERING POLLACK persevered. Now, of course, I still have to do Ma's but I did manage to file an extension because lo and behold, I have no statement from Social Security for her. I've tried to keep an eye out for that stuff and grab the tax documents as they've arrived but I don't get the mail everyday and Ma doesn't know what I'm talking about so I'll just have to get them to send another. Just as well. It will be at least a week before I'm ready to sit down and do this all over again.
I'm giving myself a well deserved pat on the back. But that's not all...
Yesterday, I sat down and had a good think about things and my emotions were ranging through every aspect of the spectrum. And without giving it much conscious attention, I walked over to the wall where my guitar was hanging and took it down.
It was dusty.
For some reason, this surprised me.
But well, all the dust floated off when I started playing it so all was well and by the time I went to sleep last night I had half of a new song in the tank. As was always the case, I have no real recollection of writing any of it, and in the old normal I'da probably written about three. But I was rhyming words without thinking about it and, given the subject matter, it was my frustration with my situation (wait that's a good phrase, too...) that brought my art back to the surface.
So I'm feeling a bit like Buffy the Vampire Slayer right now (who I'd also like to date, but that's another story) after a good row with some creatures of the night.
And while I'm on the subject of Buffy, I want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to a nonblogging friend of mine in Nashville who sat my ass down to watch The Buffer when I had been avoiding it because I thought it just HAD to be the stupidest show ever with a name like that.
HOWDY DOWN THERE, LISA BECKER!
WATCH OUT FOR THOSE TORNADOS!
And to those of you who commented about John Carpenter's THE THING the last time I watched it, it's coming on again tonight on AMC. 10:30 Eastern Time. Right after Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It's one of the best horror movies of all time. Back in the old normal I had a secret fantasy of producing it as a play... I even had the perfect venue picked out to give the audience that feeling of confinement... Anyway, if yer squeamish and yer gonna give it a look-see, make sure ya got someone to hang on to!

I wish I knew how to play the guitar.....a real guitar anyway, not just my "Guitar Hero" guitar. I think it would be awesome to play & write songs. I've never seen Buffy either ~ she looks tough in your pictures though.
