Obama Doesn't Speak for My Grandmother, Her Race or Her Generation (Justified Outrage)
If Barack Obama wants to throw his white Grandmother (who helped raise him) under the bus, implying that she was some kind of racist, that is his choice.
However, when he claims his Grandmother was just a "Typical White Person," he slurs, not just one particular race, but an entire generation.
My Grandmother who immigrated to this country from Ireland in the early 1900's never uttered a racial or religious slur against anyone her entire life. Nor, did she cross streets or clutch her bag in "fear" when encountering African American males on the streets of New York City.
Widowed in her early 40's, my Grandmother had to mend clothes and clean houses in order to feed and keep a roof over the heads of her three teenage children. There were no food stamps and there was no welfare in those days.
Obama claims to have "cringed" when hearing some of his Grandmother's racially insensitive comments. I "cringe" when hearing him indirectly insult the kind, giving, hard working and loving Grandmother who helped raise me.
That some political pundits try to excuse and rationalize this kind of racial and generational insult by implying that older white generations were all racist, only speaks to ignorance, prejudice and judgmentalism on their part. Let them speak for their own Grandmothers, NOT MINE!
And while the press is at it, someone might ask Barack Obama exactly what is his definition of "Typical White Person?" -- What is his definition of "Typical Black Person?"
Ah, imagine the outrage had Hillary Clinton or John McCain uttered such banality?
For sure, Hillary's head would be on a platter with Al Sharpton, Jeremiah Wright and Obama holding the knives.
Some of us are really tired of the doubled standards here.
But, the digs at our Grandmothers who taught us compassion for all life -- human and animal --cause our justified outrage. -- PCA
