The Two Simple Secrets in Staying Slim (Reply)

(Picture Above:  Gaby, the fat tabby, hanging out)

Ubermom111 Writes:  Truthfully Patty, Abyssinian is a bit of a stretch.  How about a fat affectionate cat who loves to eat and could benefit from a diet.  Alot of people out there might relate to Gaby.  There's something almost comforting about an animal with such a "human" flaw.  I suppose this is because I've been surfing the web trying to find an easy diet that will make me magically lose ten pounds.  The thought of jogging is abhorrent.  I even found a site where you click and a diet appears from a favorite food list that you have submitted.  Only the meals, randomly generated by a computer,  are so bizarre: Broiled flounder and macademia nuts.  Or  dinner consisting of grapefruit and oranges. There are rather scary pills  which don't sound particulary healthy.  In fact, it's all so confusing that I think I'll have another nibble of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream to calm my nerves.   Gaby and I have a lot in common. Does Gaby like ice cream?

Reply:  Believe it or not, but when first rescued, Gaby really DID look like he had some Abyssinian in him (the "ticking" and spots on his coat)!   Even the shelter described him as an Abyssinian mix.

Of course now, Gaby just looks like a very fat tabby. (Gaby, the fat tabby...should I advertise him that way?)

The real problem with Gaby (unlike the other cats here) is that he is just not into exercise!

I do believe that exercise is the key to staying slim -- not "diet."

If people saw what I eat, I should be as big as a house.  While I don't eat a lot, what I do eat is highly "fattening." -- Lots of butter, cream (in coffee), mayonnaise, pastas, bread, chocolate.  In fact, I eat anything I want and have been the same 110lbs for more than 30 years!

But, I don't eat any meat and I AM quite active.

In fact, were anyone to ask me what the secret to staying slim is, I would have two very short answers:

1-- Give up meat.

2-- Get a dog.

Gaby still looks like he has some Aby ancestors to me, and from the pictures, he does not look obese.  Well-padded, yes -- but not obese, and it's insulting to him to call him "fat".  He's a very handsome little golden striped tiger tabby, and again, I am hoping and praying I'm far from the only one who thinks so, and that somewhere in NYC, there is a wonderful loving, forever home just waiting for Gaby!
