For What it Is (Reply)

Jmuhjacat Writes: "One in a trillion"?  Yep.  That's what they ALL are.  Just ask someone who loves one. ;)

Reply: Very well said.  You are so right.

From the most mangy stray on the street to the most pampered and fussed over winners of "Dog and Cat Shows," to the raccoon in the forest, to the ducks in the pond to the horse or cow grazing on the grass, each life is precious for what it is and begs to be noticed, cherished and respected as such. -- PCA

Cherie has a great idea there, and it's one I've employed to pay tribute to, and fondly remember, my loved ones who've passed on.  Every time I look at my "wall of fame", I revisit wonderful times and experiences, and am so thankful for knowing and loving and sharing life with each one of them.  All rescues, they also represent victories over the negative on so many levels, which is healing and inspirational.

You and all animal rescuers are truly fighting an uphill battle. Its almost as if you are carrying a load up a steep mountain that never ends. Each day a little more is added to this load. Sadness, unfounded guilt thinking you could have done more, anger at the situation and unfeeling humans. Most of all its the panic that ever so slowly creeps up threatening to break your will. This journey is thankfully peppered with spots of relief. Each and every animal you adopt out gives you a chance to rest your weary body and mind briefly before picking up your burden again.

I know you have this blog to remind you but if I may I would like to suggest that you make sure and take a photo of each and every animal you find a home for. Collect these photos in an album or cover a wall with them. I believe that if you see all of them together you will be overwhelmed by the amount of animals you DID save. Maybe then the burden will seem less and perhaps you will even feel those moments of pure joy more often.

Thank you for what you do.

    Cherie
