That Which Slays Its Own (Reply)

CDonian Writes:  3) McCain is “anti” all that Hillary supports: He’d let states ban all abortions. His health plan seems designed mostly to protect insurers. He’d push NAFTA/Iraq, and appoint more strict-constructionist judges, to further favor business and limit civil liberties as we know (or knew) them. (The Sup. Court’s "strict" crew recently gutted the right to sue for job-pay sex discrimination.) It's Bush Multiplied.
Anyone who supports this never could have backed Hillary, unless they ignored all that she ever said, or never *cared* what she said.
And trust and integrity (being true to one’s values code) don’t stand alone: Those values may vary. McCain has the integrity to firmly support all that Hillary opposes; we can trust him to act accordingly. I wouldn’t applaud this, just as I wouldn’t volunteer to be mugged

Reply:  If McCain is all the things you claim, then why did Jobn Kerry approach him in 2004 to be his running mate?

You know, people say all kinds of things on campaign trails.  Candidates have to appeal to the more extreme bases of their parties.

But, the fact is, despite any appeals to the "conservative" base, McCain was and is hated by the conservative extremists of the party.  Anne Coulter even threatened to vote for Hillary Clinton against McCain. Limbaugh has continually railed against McCain.

Words are words and actions are actions.

Barack Obama "talks" about reaching across party lines, but the fact is, he has an extremely liberal voting record -- though admitedly, he's only been in the US Senate less than one term, so there's not much "record" to go on.

John McCain, on the other hand, has worked with Democrats and crossed party lines on numerous issues from immigration to the environment to the Bush tax cuts.

I don't believe McCain is the "big bad wolf" that you describe.  I don't believe he is a third term of Bush. -- It's pretty well known that despite party embraces, McCain and Bush don't like each other. The animosity goes back to the 2000 primaries when Bush honchos ran a scurrilous campaign against McCain in South Carolina accusing the Arizona Senator of fathering an illegitmate black child.  As you know, McCain lost big in South Carolina against Bush and had to endhis campaign.

That incident should have foretold the rest of the world what kind of "President" George W. Bush would make, if elected.  It said a great deal about the character and scruples of George W. Bush. -- In essence, there wasn't any.

In many ways, we have witnessed much of the same "dirty politics," scurrilous accusations and character asassination in these 2008 primaries.  No, Hillary Clinton was not accused of producing illegitmate children, but she's been accused of everything else from racism to wanting to "sabatoge" Barack Obama.  She has been compared to Tonya Harding and the insane, fictional female character in "Fatal Attraction."

The disgusting campaign waged against Hillary Clinton by members of her own party, in my opinion has been far WORSE than that perpetrated against John McCain in 2000.

Now, you may argue that Barack Obama is not responsible for vicious rhetoric put out there by his supporters or surrogates.

By that logic, we can believe that George W. Bush was neither aware of nor supportive of the illegitimate black child allegations against McCain in 2000. However, what we know about George W. Bush now, would seem to defy that belief.

What do we know about Barack Obama now?

We know that he uses people and then betrays them.

He "used" Reverend Wright for 20 years in order to gain prominence in the black commuity in Chicago and rise in the political ranks.  He has recently, for political purposes, thrown the controversial Wright under the proverbial bus.

He "used" former terrorist bomber and now, college professor, Bill Ayers to help launch is run for Chicago state Senator.  He now disavows any association with Ayers, saying he is not responsible for what somebody did 40 years ago.

He "used" Hillary Clinton by soliciting and gaining her support for his 2004 US Senate run -- and then ran against her in the 2008 primaries for President.

More recently, Barack Obama has solicited and eventually won the endorsements of party wimps, Bill Richardson and John Edwards.

But, if these losers think they are getting the VP slot or some high cabinet post in an Obama administration, they might do better to look at Obama's teeth with those who help "feed" him.

"The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior."

We can't say too many good things about George W. Bush, but he is at least loyal to those who have served him well.  That's more than we can say about Barack Obama.

Looking at Hillary Clinton over these past few days, she is like someone in a trance. --  Shell shocked; knee capped.

I don't believe the reality of this campaign has quite set in -- and probably won't for several years -- if ever.

She has been betrayed, rejected and "thrown under the proverbial bus" by those she helped paved the way for.

In some ways, just like Al Gore in 2000.

At the beginning of these primaries, there were many who wanted Al Gore to run again.   But, I knew he wouldn't.

Who could go through twice, what Gore went through once in 2000?

For that reason, I am quite sure, Hillary won't run again in 2012, despite what all her detractors and haters say.

This country has tendency to slay the best it has to offer.

After protesting at the 2001 inagural of Geoge W. Bush in Washington DC, I returned to New York City and registered as a Democrat (from Independent).

Later today, I will switch back to being an Independent, as I am every bit as disgusted with the Democratic party and its treatment of Hillary Clinton as I was with the Republican party in 2000 and its hijacking of an election -- perhaps even more so.

I'll continue to support my democratic representative (Caroline Maloney, who vigorously supported Clinton) and my two democratic Senators -- Clinton and Shumer.

But, I want nothing more to do with the party itself.

I don't like that which slays its own. -- PCA
