"Loyalty to Truth"

Loyalty to truth."

That is an interesting self-claim and one which we have heard recently from former White House Press Secretary (and now book author) Scott MeClellen.

The question is, when did Mr. McClellen developed this admirable character quality?

Four years ago, when awareness and allegiance to truth might have made a difference in the 2004 election or to history itself?  Or, more than a year ago, when McClellen (after having resigned his White House job) started to write his new book, "What Happened?"

"What happened," indeed.

Did McClellen suddenly have a religious or ethical awakening upon leaving the White House?

Did lightening strike him?

Or, did the promise of big bucks from a "tell all" book bring about this sudden "loyalty to truth?"

Unfortunately, the only ones who can now benefit from this newly claimed "loyalty to truth" are the author himself and possibly Barack Obama, the now presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee.

Claims of "truth" always need to be questioned when the ones doing the telling stand to benefit either materially or in other ways.

It is of course, not up to mere humans to judge the purity or actual "truth" of McClellen's words, claims or soul. History and God will ultimately judge those things.

I merely question when this claimed noble character quality was born in this individual and what proof we have that it now exists?

Truth in fact, can be many things. Often it is the manner in which one chooses to look at events and circumstances. Or, the manner in which one denies, rationalizes or avoids those same circumstances and events.

It appears that Scott McClellen was in "denial" four years ago (when it benefited him to rationalize and deny), but now "sees" (truth) when it benefits him under different circumstances.

Ah, no lies so grave or destructive as the lies we tell ourselves!

"There is a little truth in everything and the whole truth in nothing."

And even now, McClellen doesn't see that. -- PCA
