Diversions of All Kinds Occuring in Our Lives

Since my last entry almost 2 years ago, many things have happened, no doubt to all of us. Some of my own diversionary happenings have been: the complete writing of the book on our work in Lahore, Pakistan, and Tehran, Iran. I am calling it "Rising Heat in Tehran." It will be published when I can do it right.

I have given many speeches in many places. I have been heavily involved in a study of church decline in America....an extremely serious turn in the 3rd millennium. The intense study was conducted by some 60 conservative Christians digging to find why membership has declined and what to do to turn that trend around. I have been involved in some serious spiritual music-writing for congregational worship.

It was a privilege of mine to give some stand up comedy routines during the past several months. One at Texas Stadium in Dallas (Irving) Texas. This talk was for a convention of hispanic contractors, who heard me talk about my career and work as snack food consultant in a piece I call "I Put Bubbles in Tortilla Chips."

My wife and I made an 8 day cruise to Alaska from Seattle aboard the Princess Lines ship named the Dawn Princess. Do That!! That cruise was a gift to my wife and me for our golden wedding anniversary from our four children, three of whom reside in Texas, near Dallas, while the fourth daughter with her family live in Coronado, California . Do That!! If you make any pleasure cruise, do the Alaska trip. You will see why only if you do it....Do That!!

Our travels have taken us to the South of France - Lyon, Marseille, Aix en Provence, to Singapore, El Salvador, and many states west from Texas and East from Texas, to the midwest, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Alabama, for a talk to a group of some 87 missionaries, and to San Diego, to Winona, Mississippi to offer counsel and input on the establishment of a School of World Evangelism.

We have visited grandaughters in college in Abilene, TX, in San Marcos, TX, and the one in Aix en Provence. With ten grandchildren there is promise we will see other campuses before long. We will see Nutcracker again this year as one grandaughter  performs in Irving; this will be our 14th or 16th or 18th Christmas season to see at least one grand child perform in the Nutcracker.

On top of all the travel and recreation we have done, I have tried to run my company helping snack food manufacturers improve their snackfoods. We have done that in 23 countries and in over 110 companies.

I now hope to make more journal entries in the Citizens Line blog, as the writing of the book on Tehran and much required travel is finished. I am not attempting to make an entry each week, but only when I have something I want to write about. You feel free to add an entry whenever you choose.

Thanks for rejoining the readers of the Citizen's Line. Signed, ManWalking50.

New Schedule for Posting My Journal Entries

I encourage you to read additional comments

at the bottom of the article: "Add Your Own"

Thank you for reading my Blog, A CITIZEN'S LINE over the past six months. I am changing the entry schedule from 'every Sunday' to 'when I have an idea'...not any fixed entry schedule. Here's why....for the next several months I will be actively writing a book on our personal experiences in Lahore, Pakistan, and Tehran, Iran.

We had some rather harrowing times in both countries, and I want to write them in a  book of about 300 pages. The book will expose some of the character of the muslim mentality, and discuss how really HOT Tehran got during the time we were there, and how that relates to the events going on in that part of the world today.

I will write our observations of the good of the muslim people we saw, the bad of the sunni muslims of Pakistan and the shiite muslims of Iran, and the ugliness of the way people are treated in many, many cases. For example, the conversion of one young muslim girl resulted in her husband putting her to death after she told him she had been baptized and was a christian. It gave me much pause, as I was the one who baptized her.

The first 45 pages are written, and I am working early in the morning before I have to go to work. I write from about 5:30 am until about 8:30 am or later. It is tedious work, but I want to relate the minds and hearts of the people then with the effect that the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini had on Osama bin Laden, and even on the current Iranian President Ahmadinejan, who said, "Israel should be pushed into the sea", and that there "...was no Holocaust of the Jews".

How did Khomeini gain a victory over the United States, which he called "The Great Satan"?

How did he influence Bin Laden?

What impact did he have on the entire muslim world?

These things I am addressing in the new book.

Thanks again for reading this Blog...I hope to renew it later on this summer.

Clones and Cloning...Is It Right?

My career has been one as a research scientist. My education lends itself to that vocation, and my mind is very much stimulated by science, practical study and application as well as theoretical. But some areas of "exploration into things" step over the lines of "going where no man has gone before". Some places where man CAN go may be places where it is better that he does NOT go.

The extremely controversial discipline of cloning is, of course, intriguing, and lends itself to intense questions, and I have these observations. For instance, I wonder if clones (animals) will ever have the longevity of originals? Will they ever be able to reproduce?

What would be the result of a horse race where ten entries cloned from one champion race horse run against each other?

Would ten cloned beef cattle be the same weight and yield the same 'steak' flavor and tenderness?

Could a complete herd of cattle be cloned from the absolute best animal and always turn out good meat? And could this be repeated over and over to guarantee the 'best cut in town' every time we ate a steak?

Regarding human cloning, I am very interested in hearing about this issue and seeing the direction our nation's government (and world leaders) take us. I believe I could not ever condone any aspect of human cloning for fear of what it might do to the individual or multi-individual or plural-individual or whatever he may become.

Would a single soul reside in more than one body? Would separate souls live in each body?

Would the clones resulting from one original have a common psyche, like identical twins sometime display? Would this psyche be stronger than the original and be more nearly like the original than even the twins mind-link? Would a combined psyche made up of multiple clones be extremely enhanced in mind and power...or diluted, watered down?

As a scientist I have an inquiring mind; but as a christian moral agent, I do not want to ever see the work of any scientist or team of medical men put an individual human into such a potentially wracked state of existence.

The questions hang there? In my opinion, the questions should forever hang there. ManWalking50.

Some Things I'd Like to See

Some Things I'd Like to See

1...On capitol case trials. Supplement the 12 peer jury with a 3 professional and trained full time jurists with legal training and judicial experience, test qualified. Both "panels" agree on guilt or no guilt before a sentence is imposed. This kind of "judgement" could prevent fiascos like that of the O.J. Simpson trial and hundreds of other lower profile trials. It could prevent the execution of those who are later found to be innocent.

2...On forest fire fighting. Instead of flying one plane or one helicoptor carrying a "thimble" full of water, send in waves of water-bearing planes to really put out the fires. Use a "shock and awe" mentality to fight the fires.

3...On 4 way stop signs. Replace most of the stop signs with only 2 yield signs.

4...On post office efficiency. I'd like to see the post office windows as efficient all day long as they are between 4:30 and 5:00 pm, as closing time approaches.

5...On leaf blowing. I'd like to see extremely stiff fines imposed for people blowing leaves out of their yards into the streets. Collection bags are availalbe to gather the leaves and dispose of them through the city trash removal.

6...On taxation. I'd like to see a universal FLAT TAX of 20% on all income regardless of salary size or any income level. If a person makes $500 per week, he pays $100 per week income tax. If one makes $2000 per week, he pays $400 per week. Each pay period the employer gives 80% to the employee and immediately sends 20% to the government. Employer keeps all records, and employee has no April 15 crisis, as he fills out no form and makes no payment. He never has his hands on the 20%, and can keep all of his 80%. This removes a lot of the red tape and payroll of the IRS department.

LOOKING BACK: I remind you to go back to previous entries on this CITIZENS LINE blog and read comments made by readers, sometimes days or weeks after the initial entry was made.

LOOKING AHEAD: In upcoming entries on this blog I will write of interrogation and torture of our terrorist captors to prevent them killing more Americans.

LOOKING TO THE SIDE: Notice the two other journals to the left of this entry and click on them to read some other incisive comments.

Those Who Would Appease Our Enemies

Those Who Would Appease Our Enemies

There are those Americans who are actually hoping we fail in Iraq. A fairly significant minority of Americans believe we should not have gone to war in Iraq. These Americans believe in some unrealistic doctrine of appeasement, thinking muslim fanatical terrorists can be dissuaded from their conquest of the world in a global 'jihad', by a stated position of "equality of nations". Thus, because they oppose the war (actually any way) they are put in the contradictory position of jumping on and pointing out every mistake, every setback, every difficulty, of our effort in Iraq. Does this make them appear anit-American, even treasonous?

This philosophy of appeasement overlooks the real world fact that most of the muslim world resents us, hates us to our core, and greatly desires to destroy us entirely. The growing socialism throughout Europe is adding to the anti-American feeling there, and those people, too would delight in seeing us fail, not only in Iraq, but in anything we attempt. They even in December released prisoners they held for years that are known enemies of our country with designs to attack us again.

Most of the antiwar, appeasement-driven people claim we as a country should not go to war as a national, political philosophy. Some few feel that it is anti-Christian to wage war. It seems that mostly the antiwar people are liberal-minded politically, preferring not to "kill" the enemy, but to "befriend" them and "talk" to them to prevent their harming us.

This seems to fly in the face of the nature of the people of God in His dealing with them. He gave the 10 commandments including, "Thou shalt not kill"; yet He commanded His own people to conquer other peoples and occupy their land, bringing "nothing' back alive. It would seem to be the nature of God to eliminate evil; yet the appeasing, antiwar doctrine would forgive Saddam for killing 100s of thousands of "innocent" people, and then berate and condemn our own government for removing the tyrant and attempting to neutralize Al Qaeda.

The liberal wing of our country is causing the enemy to, not only FEEL they have allies within our country, but to KNOW they have them and to USE these "friends" to their advantage. They know the words spoken publicly by our democratic leaders undermine our war effort makes it more likely they can recruit more homicide/suicide bombers and delay America's complete success in Iraq. They delight in the fact that more American soldiers die as a result of the antiwar sentiment weakening us and delaying our reaching our objectives.

How long will it be until we redefine treason to include those who cause more of our soldiers to die and endanger our homeland by their outcry and opposition to American policy in our fight against terrorism?

NOTE: There are two other blogs by Christian writers who are supporters of our war effort and yet their highest priority is God...you will enjoy their writing if you will click on their sites seen at the left of this entry.

Looking Ahead: In the coming days the entry will be made titled, "Some Things I'd Like to See". It covers a range of interesting things from major changes I think we need to minor changes, but I think it will be things that touch all our lives.

Looking Back: In this journal entry I wrote about anitwar, appeasers. You may feel that way, and I mean no offense by pointing it out. In fact, some of you may want to look back to a comment made this week by one appeaser and antiwar proponent, who is very anti-Bush and anti-conservative republican (and, as you will see, anti-ManWalking50). You may see his comments under the entry of December 12, 2005, "What Are Some Positive Results of an American Victory in Iraq"?

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EACH READER OF THIS CITIZENS LINE BLOG!

Exploring Outer Space: "Looking for Life"

Exploring Outer Space: "Looking for Life"

Always I have been a sci-fi buff; and I am surely a NASA supporter. I even signed up my young son and myself with Pan-Am in the mid-1960s for a space flight when they became commercially available.

Space travel - news and fiction - captured my imagination and a lot of my time as a teen and on into college. In the 50s, as a 14 years old, I drew three "space comic books", each with forty pages of story copy and self-drawn pictures. I used a small jello box to make my comic page squares for the pictures - six to a page. Occasionally, I would draw a scene or a sketch of a person in those box squares that really looked good, impressing my family and friends, who would say encouraging things, like, "That looks real", or "Where did you learn to draw like that?". I ate it up.

My space hero in my book, I named Rocket Carmen, Space Cadet. He was inspired by Tom Corbett, Flash Gordon, and Buck Rodgers. The sound of Cadet Carmen's ray gun  was 'ZAAACK', and it could knock over a moon rover if set on HIGH. He captured space crooks in the interplanetary pursuit of the "Silver Robbers of Saturn"; and he fought in the space wars in my famous story, "Mercurian Wars". Even before NASA revealed their plans for a 'moon touchdown', I landed my guys on the surface of planets with a 'lander' from the mother ship. (We had not invented "molecule transporters" at that time. That came with Star Trek).

When my parents bought my first chemistry set for my Christmas of 1949, I instantly became a scientist...and have been ever since. Making reactions occur with that set and reading books like "World Out of Mind" and "The Puppet Masters" mixed the reality of science and the fantasy of science fiction in my preteen mind.

I watched Neil Armstrong make that "giant leap for mankind" on the moon, and blended that with Captain Kirk of the Star Ship Enterprise as he space-tripped lightly across galaxies at multiple warp speeds. My visions for space soared as they did in the real and unreal expectations of space exploration by NASA in millions of  American kids.

And....I still support NASA and space exploration. I like the "spin offs" that have come from NASA research and discoveries, which benefit man regarding health; science; medicine; every day living; the American, as well as, world economy; and American prestige for the accomplishments.

I think it is vital that we in America be first in space and on the planets to establish ourselves and "lay claim" to the "silver of Saturn" (?), and prevent any aggressive, military attacks by our enemies from space stations, as in a "war from Mercury" (?).

It seems that Americans are seen by the world as the leader in the technology of space, and the educational knowledge gained from these adventures. It therefore seems essential that we are the ones to strengthen our defenses and our security and our military prowess from the vantage points of space...but....

I don't want my $55 per year (the annual contribution of each American citizen to NASA) going into "looking for life" on Mars or Venus. That "objective" of our brilliant men and women of NASA may only be a ploy used to excite us into support; but for my tax dollars I prefer the fruits of exploration for practical purposes, economicallly and militarily.

We must separate the real productive goals of space from those which are fictional fantasy. The first ones, the Neil Armstrong kinds, give a quick R.O.I.; while the second, Rocket Carmen kinds, puts money down a "black hole". ManWalking50.

MINI-APOLOGY: Since Christmas fell on Sunday this year, this blog entry was a day late. I try to normally post these entries on Sundays as a deadline, but my wife and I returned at 1:00 am Sunday, Christmas Day, and I just could not peck on these keys at that time. We had just returned from a 3,500 mile drive to San Diego from Dallas and return in 8 days. I worked each day, and we visited friends along the way, and bought grand kids things in that great southwest desert. Terrific trip...now back down to business. Have a great New Year and a prosperous 2006, everyone!

Visualizing World Peace

When we succeed in helping the Iraqis establish their "Free Democracy", sometime late next year, a gigantic step will be completed to setting up paradigm of peace in the Middle East. Many of the world's conflicts will begin to subside, because it will show that violence and terror, tyranny and dictatorial rule does not provide the answer for mankind.

It has been reported that over 90% of the confrontations in the world involve muslims; thus, for peace to become the rule of the world the aggression of Islam, jihad or not, must be refocused. This can be done with the cooperation of the highest leaders of Islam in all nations, who will persuade followers of Islam peace is a better way. They can explain the Koran in a way that stresses peace, work to remove poverty through independent responsibility, develop trade plans with all countries, muslim and all others.

When peace does reign worldwide, visualize the things that will begin to happen; envision the world in which we will be living. Some of these things that can be imagined include:

1...every country is guaranteed freedom of religion, without persecution of any kind in any country or society.

2...no one is fearful of attack, invasion, occupation; the potential of a nuclear holocaust becomes a thing of the past horror, as nuclear proliferation ends.

3...leaders are elected by honest popular vote all over the world.

4...the monies previously spent on armaments and fire power is now applied to solving the problems of poverty and education, removing the reason for war, conflict and terror.

5...fair judicial systems come into existence in all countries.

6...trade channels are opened among all nations, and investments in free enterprise occur in and from all nations.

7...cultural exchange occurs among all nations, more of others ways of life are shared.

8...tourism by all into all other countries begins to improve understanding and economy.

9...friendly sports, art, and academic shows and competition happens among all nations.

10..infrastructures of the nations would be initiated and maintained.

11..a real war could be waged on two fronts...disease and education.

12..research and exploration would be joint ventures among many nations.

13..toleration, acceptance of others, forgiving attitudes, less fear and suspicion would result, less stress with life...all these good things would be promoted leading to better standards and quality of life worldwide, with more productivity, and less loss of life.

To achieve this what has to happen?

1...World wide religious freedom must be guaranteed by all nations..

2...Terror mentality must be ended.

3...All Muslim leaders must stop the violent aspect of jihad.

4...The purposes and objectives of the United Nations must be strenghthened.

5...World leaders must draw up world plans for maintaining peace.

6...Vitriolic rhetoric must be kept out of diplomatic dialogue.

7...Sunlight must shine on national relations (no "shady deals").

8...All WMD development must cease, guranteed by the union of peace keeping states.

Did We Just Happen or Did God Create Us?

Did We Just Happen to Stumble into Existence or Did God Really Create Us?

A person of faith will most always look for God in creation. Others may not. Some believers accept as 'scientific' the theory of organic evolution to explain the way we got here, but with no real way to explain it. The great 'bridge' between having insufficient evidence for evolution and having to reject it outright is to simply mask it with the phrase "over the billions of years of time changes occurred."

The evolutionists cannot escape the reality that the original elements of matter had to come from somewhere, life itself had to originate from something, knowledge had to have a start with some kind of origin. The "original origin" throws the most learned and passionate scientific minds. That is the initial unscalable hurdle; but the effort drives on to cause us, all mankind, to accept the theory of evolution.

The following entry is made more from the intellectual, logical perspective than from the emotional or spiritual point of view. It is based on a background of a science education and a comprehensive study of the bible.

My science education consists of 70 class hours of college science (chemistry, physics, and biology) and 40 class hours of college mathematics to support the science courses. My work history consists of 40 years in science, including 20 in research.

My religious education and activities include a life time of regular bible study, and countless workshops and teaching of bible scholars. I worked almost five years in the mission fields of Lahore, Pakistan, and Tehran, Iran, among the intensity of both Sunni and Shiite Muslims. My serving as a deacon was five years and as an elder, ten years. For over 20 years I directed a missions and culture training program for small children through high school.

A keen interest and passion since my first year of college has been comparing, in harmony and in contrast, the truest science and the purest scripture I could determine. The reading has included 40 to 50 books and articles and papers comparing the understanding of science by man and the inspiration of scripture by God, reliable science books, and the writings of bible apologists and scholars.

Without hesitation, without defense, without argument, I write these key conclusions I have drawn from over 50 years of study seeking honestly for the truth in the scientific disciplines and in the biblicalinterpretations and commentaries and doctrines. It has always been my intent to determine the truth, whichever side of science it came down on. And admittedly, most of my study was done calling on God, in whom I believe, to guide my study, research, and search.

Here, then, are my individual and independent conclusions:

1...Man is far older than the traditionally-accepted biblical age of 12,000 years.

2...Prehistoric dinosaurs did exist, as evidenced by the skeletal remains and fossils preserved in ice, dirt/rock, and amber.

3...The bible allows for epochal periods of time in the first chapter of Genesis.

4...Species were created at widely-varied points of time, even eons apart.

5...There are virtually (if not absolutely) no transition fossils or 'genuine' skeletal remains of "between-the-species" life forms, making evolution spurious in general concept.

6...Divine creation, with "intelligent design", of course, over a great period of time is the most logical conclusion from the true scientific evidence accurately documented, honestly recorded, and truthfully reported.

7...The bible as the inspired word of God upholds the true facts and laws of science, even elucidates some baffling questions of science.

God, the Author of the words of the bible; the Establisher of the laws of science; the Creator of all the cycles of nature; the Maker of the body, mind, soul of man; and the Designer of the plan of man's salvation, stands sovereign and supreme compared to the greatest minds of science, philosophy, and human genius.

What Are Some Positive Results of an American Victory in Iraq?

There is so much debate about our war on terror and withdrawing from Iraq, I thought I would list some of the "good things" that will come out of the war we are fighting, when we are done in Iraq. They are many...and they are world-changingly significant. Twelve that are obvious in this office are as follows:

1...Iraq becomes a free and prosperous democracy, with no more mass killings and no one killing people for the way they grow a beard or curl their hair.

2...The remainder of the Arab (muslim) knows America will react to terror in a forceful and decisive way.

3...Other muslim nations will believe America will assist them to become a democracy, making them prosperous and more prone to observing human rights, valuing human life, practicing the free enterprise system, and participating in global trade.

4...America will have Iraq as an ally and friend in an extremely strategic part of the world.

5...Israel and Iraq will be much more inclined, even driven, to strike meaningful peace agreements.

6...The Middle East will be more stable and easier to deal with by the rest of the world.

7...Iraq will be another oil trading partner with the U.S. and other nations, as well as a trader in other goods.

8...A great tourist nation will be opened, and other nations will be privileged to see sites in old Babylonia and Baghdad, improving even there the economy of Iraq.

9...The size of Al Qaeda and other insurgent terror groups will be greatly reduced; their leadership will be more nearly neutralized and their effectiveness as terrorists diminished.

10..The temptation of other Arab-Muslim-Middle Eastern leaders will be less inclined to become dictators and ruthless rulers.

11..The American military branches all gained invaluable learning, training, and experience; great advances in modern, battle-proven weapons, equipment, and strategy will be gained by the U.S. defense department.

12..American character, with it's ethics and morals will have been showcased to the world to demonstrate how a western, christian, republic operates in general and operates in a time of war.

These things can be a part of the future if we don't turn tail and run prematurely from Iraq.

It is then a hope of this writer and office that the split of the politicians and the rhetoric of the Left Wing of America will quiet their tone and withhold public comments and confine their debate to closed and secured chambers, without reporting everything to the media, until the time is right and our enemies do not gain from the outcry for "retreat and surrender". (Dec. 5, 2005)

Departing Iraq: How Will We Know When to Pullout?

Note: This week the entry to this blog was advertised to be Does America Really Need for NASA to Search Space for Life?; however, in light of the growing debate on whether we should depart "immediately" or give a time table for our departure or keep our military moves secret so as not to tip off our enemy, I decided to make my comment stating my opinion on that subject. I will write on NASA and it's "goals" at a later time. For this week my topic is about departing Iraq at the right time.

A system of measurements of accomplishments is needed to convey our successes in Iraq. Virtually every endeavor has mile posts and progress check points; they are vital to know where we are and how we are doing. Even sports have these ways of measuring progress to toward the end. For example, baseball games are not over just because time runs out; rather, the game ends when all innings are played. A time frame or limit is not put on a typical game.

So it is in Iraq. The war ends when all the "innings" are completed. When everything is done that has to be done the work will be over.

A way to measure what "inning" we are in would be a good way to determine our progress and success in the war on terror.

If there are 30 brigades of men that must be trained to be independent, and 20 are trained, then we are 67% done on that objective.

If 100 hospitals need to be operating, and 60 are functioning correctly, then we are 60% of the way to the goal.

If 1000 schools need to be holding classes and 700 are in operation, then we are 70% of the way to completion.

If 80% of the businesses are running that is a measure of success.

If 85% of the towns are being governed under elected leadership that is a mark toward a goal of 100%.

If 50% of the oil is being pumped that is a measurement of success.

Other measurements of progress would be such things as "tips given us from Iraqis advising us of insurgent activities" (as stated recently by Mary Matlin, former conservative advisor to the White House); the number of insurgent attacks; employment percentages; trained police; trade balance of imports - exports; GNP; stock exchange quotes.

Charts and graphs can be plotted on these and all other key parameters of population and government activity to show how close we are to getting the job done victoriously and being able to come home from Iraq.

Our government would be well-advised to give a monthly or bi-monthly report of these, and all, measuring sticks to let the U.S. population know "what inning we are in" in Iraq.

ManWalking50.

Looking Ahead: The next entry - in midweek - will be a departure from my typical writing. The title of the piece will be "Did We Just Happen or Did God Create Us?". I hope you will check back in to read the views coming from my own mind and heart through my personal studies of bible and science over the years. MW50.
