Feeling Angry

What's an animal-killer called? It rhymes with hunt.

BY SPECIAL REQUEST

(Note: I seem to be getting more hits than when I began here at My 26 Best Friends 3 months ago. One of them was from someone in Montana who wrote, "You did an entry about hunting a while back. I'd like to see it again. OK?" They have a lot of crazies in Montana. Sicko patriot groups, miliiias and the like. A lot of NRA degenerates, too.  I can't say no to a fan. Even if he's the wrong kind of fan., So as a public service, I repeat this piece about pieces. But for the record, it was written by someone else who was just using my name.)

Show me a hunter and I'll show you (1) a coward, (2) and unfeeling human being, (3) a stupid person. People who go out with guns and kill deer, bears, squirrels, rabbits and other animals are the lowest form of humanity. They are no better than the animals they kill. Strike that. They are much worse than the animals they kill.

I don't oppose hunting to feed one's family, but who does that these days? Maybe there are some places in our country where people live far off in the mountains, and they need to sustain their families on the bounty of the land. A couple of hundred years ago, it might even have been the norm. But hunting for sport is cruel. I know that there are those who would debate this, but I don't have any hunter's blood in me. I am a shopper, a gatherer, a teacher, and I'd rather care for the environment and the animals that live in it. I admit though, I am not a complete vegetarian, so someone is killing food for me. Do I feel that familiar guilt sneaking up on me now? Ever so subtle, but yes.  bea

I think hunting for sport is wicked.
