Interesting genealogical record on Bush

Translation:

George W. Bush descends from the the Normandy Lord "Strongbow"

The United States President George W. Bush is a direct descendant of the Normandy feudal Lord Ricardo de Claire, known as "Strongbow" that led the Irish Invasion in the 12th century Irish reporters confirmed this Wednesday.

Bush would also be a descendant by an alianze of the Celtic king of the Irish Province of Leinster, Dermot Mcmurroh, considered a traitor of the island because of his greed.  The family of the United States President already knew his roots from the Normand English lords of the middle ages.

But the historian Ann Griffin Bernstorff described the geneological link with the Irish while working on the Ross Tapestry, one of the major tapestrys of Europe, that reconstitutes the birth of the city of New Ross, founded in 1207 by Guillermo "el Mariscal" son of "Strongbow" who was married with Isabel de Clare.  George W Bush would be a direct descendant of his separated by 30 generations.

    Thanks Mark.

I disagree with your friend -- I always look to see if a comment I leave behind catches a response.  Thank you.

I appreciate the additional information -- it is a curious connection, but as you suggest, hardly relevant to the real world.  I wouldn't try to explain President Bush by referring to such a distant ancestral relation, but I can see why someone who didn't like the man would enjoy the parallels (I did).

And no -- my high school Spanish is far too limited and rusty to enable me to read her journal.  It is a pity.

    Thanks again.

Answer to Neil:  I was told by a friend that making a comment to answer another comment was like talking to myself.  Well, I could run over to Neil's site and respond, but who in the heck would know what I am talking about. So I will respond here.  In response to your point Neil, you are correct.  The blogger (from Spain) made the same point - in fact, that was the point she was trying to make along with others.  If you speak any Spanish, you can try reading her blog http://blogs.ya.com/lalluviaensevilla/ Obviously, I don't think she is pro-Bush.  She entitles her piece "El hombre desciende del mono y Bush desciende...de la cerveza (o casi)" translated "Man descends from the Monkey and Bush descends...from Beer (or almost)" - you have to read it in order to understand what she was talking about :), but as you and I know regardless of who Strongbow was, it wouldn't have any effect on who Bush is today just as descendants of Nazi leaders would have no effect on who their descendants are.  I just thought it was an interesting connection.

Interesting connection.  You might like to look into who Strongbow was.  The BBC have a good site with a brief history, written by Simon Schama:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/state/nations/ireland_invasion_03.shtml

Unfortunately, it seems that Strongbow and his fellow Anglo-Normans came to Ireland with intentions of making a bit of regime change there, and they stayed to occupy the country and ended up as its rulers.  They took Ireland for their own and for 800 years the Irish had to fight for their freedom.

Had they just a few rpg's and ied's they might have been more effective in their resistance, but it didn't work that way then.

How odd that Bush has the blood of such men in his veins.  Only difference I guess is that Strongbow himself was a real warrior, not the dress-up kind.

    Peace,

    Neil
