Santana to the Mets....

Johan Santana could be packing his bags and headed towards the Big Apple soon but to the surprise of many he's headed to Queens and not the Evil Empire in the Bronx. But everything is just a strong possibility right now all contingent upon...you guessed it his contract and what his agent and him agree on. The Mets and Santana have until 5 PM ET on Friday to agree on the contractual issues according to an MLB official that would like to remain anonymous. The contract is bound be in excess of over $100 million my guess would be around the $140 million dollar range with Zito inking his 7 year $126 million contract last off season giving him a value of roughly 18 million a year. Santana will and should demand a higher annual payment. The Mets were hesitant to go 6 years with Zito this year but to lock up the 29 year-old 2-time Cy Young winner it'll be well worth the risk. Not to mention a pitcher as electric as Santana nearly pays for himself, with the new Citi Field the Mets are looking at a financial promising future. Alex Rodriguez the most explosive offensive player in the game just inked himself nearly $28 million dollars a year so how much will the most dominating pitcher in the league command? I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a 7 year $140 million dollar deal, now is not the time for the Wilpon's to tighten up their wallets, the hard part is over have Santana name his price and ride the wave to the World Series.

NFL Draft

There is always a stirr when college football players give up their remaining years of eligibility to enter the NFL draft or where some prospects return for their last hoorah. Yesterday (Jan 15th) was the final day for underclass prospects to petition for inclusion in the draft. ESPN has compiled a list of all the underclassmen who petition for inclusion in this Draft highlighted by Heisman runner-up Darren McFadden. The running-back position seems extremely deep for this junior class. Due to NFL guidelines scouts are precluded to discuss underclass prospects until the league approves their applications and announces who is draft-eligible.
