Phils On a Sudden Roll...

After seeing their record slowly start to improve from their slow start, the Phillies finally find themselves back at .500. The last time the Phillies were standing at .500 is when the season first started off and they were 0-0. As sad as that is, they have captured second place in the division and took a recent series from the Braves. The Atlanta series was just two games and the Phils proved dominant in both.

The pitching of Corey Lidle captured the latest win for the Phillies. Leading the Phillies into the game with a current four game winning streak, Lidle did not want to risk blowing their streak. So, he came out firing and eventually rang up 5 k's. Finding himself in a hole in the sixth inning Lidle could feel his time coming to an end. That was until he rang up Ryan Langerhans to end a risky situation in which Atlanta had bases loaded. So, the Phils took a lead into the 7th and never looked back eventually taking a 6-3 victory.

This win was incredibly big considering that Atlanta and Philly had identical records (12-14) coming into this series. Now, after securing these two wins, the Phils take a decent second place lead over the Braves. They stand 2 game above Atlanta but still 5 back of the New York Mets.

The most surprising part of this five-game win streak that the Phillies have put together is the pitching! It was clear early on in the season that the bull pen was the whole reason that the Phils were losing but now there is no excuse. If the pitching holds up like this there is no reason to lose games. They are winning a lot of close games but the win is all that matters. If the Phils can bring solid bats to the plate the majority of the season and keep consistent pitching, they will be a threat to the Mets for the division when season end comes. It may sound crazy but I AM the Phils fan of this blog and I am free to speak (or write) my mind.

Barry Bond and the San Francisco Giants are in town for a three game series against the Phils. Barry better not be expecting #'s 714 and 715 to come in our home town, heck no!

Phils Record: 14-14
