GRANDPA MADE A NEW ROPE SWING
Do you remember long ago,
the rope swings that you used to know.
The one's that grandpa made for you,
so you could get a better view,
from way up there?
Or swinging out with someone else,
for more momentum, yes, no doubt.
two cousins having so much fun,
creating memories one by one.
Oh yea!
Our oldest son and his family were coming for a long weekend visit. He had a high school reunion to attend, we had some grandchildren to watch. Grandpa started about a month or two early, looking for and buying this huge soft white rope to rig up in that big oak tree in the back pasture. I didn't know what he was planning, he said he was building me a trapeze because I had been asking for one for years. lol Anyway as the time drew closer he had to cut down a large branch and get the help of a neighbor to get the rope way up on that high branch. It was completed weeks before the kids came and our neighbor's, who keep their horses up here, were more than happy to try it out. In fact they swing on it each time they come up to feed the horses. Our youngest son had the ond mobile home stairs and they made the perfect launching pad. That's what you see in the first picture, two of our grandchildren taking off together on the swing. They played on it for hours and it was great fun watching them do so.
Brought back a lot of memories when we used togo to our grandparents home in Michigan when we were kids. They had a regular swing, which was large and since they lived on a hill as you would swing you would swing out over the hill a bit. The greatest thing though was back behind the house was a really tall sand hill and down in the center of this circular opening were blackberry briars, and a rope swing that would take you from one side to the other over the blackberry briars. You really had to hang on though because if you slipped your were down in the briars and trying to walk out meant really scratched up legs. Do I speak from experience? Well yes. I suppose I didn't make it across a few times and I remember one particular time my sister swung out and dropped down to help me find a way out of the brairs without getting scratched up to terribly bad.
Lots os happy memories from the summers we would go to Michigan and spend time with our mother's parents and her sister and her family. Fun, fun times. I think we only missed going there a couple summers and that was when my dad was building our home. He built it on weekends and after he worked all day as a carpenter, but that's another story.
Find yourself a swing and no matter how old you are do some swinging today.
Blessings to you,
Marlene

That looks like so much fun! I like to swing. When I have taken the grandchildren to the park I would also swing. I had an old tire to swing in too. Love the the trees and looks quiet. I am sure you all had a wonderful time. Many Blessings, Janie http://journals.aol.com/bojgi
