Feeling Happy

They haven't shut me down yet, so SATURDAY SIX!

AOL keeps offering free months when I try to cancel (hey, after 7 years, why not!?). So I am going to continue the Saturday Six here in this journal. Don't forget, my journal has moved to:

www.breadcrumbsinthebutter.typepad.com

Go see. It's so freaking pretty!

Now, on to other things:

From Patrick's Place  Home of The Saturday Six!

1. Have you ever called 911 for an emergency?

Yes. 3.5 years ago, as we were getting ready for vacation, Erin (now almost 7) was going out the patio door. She came back in and said "Mommy, I cut my finger off." I was just about to turn around and say "Oh Erin. Stop that. Go outside." when I turned around and saw the tip of her tiny middle finger hanging off by the fingernail.

Being the calm person I am, I freaked out. John too over until the ambulance got there. Meghan was just a couple of months old and I was worried about leaving her here with John, but we had milk pumped and off I went with Erin to the hospital. They had to do plastic surgery to reattach and she had also broken an exposed a bone, so she had to have heavy duty antibiotics for a while.

I'm shivering right now just writing about it.

2. Do you spend more or save more?

Aha! I spend spend spend. John saves saves saves. See why we are such a good match?

3. How many live plants do you have in your home now?  Do you give them enough attention?

I have one flowering plant John bought me for Valentine's Day and I've actually been good at watering it.  Other than that, plants run away from me. I kill them.

4. What was the last thing you did to exercise?  How often do you exercise?

I played soccer last night (we tied, no score). Typically, I run three times a week (3 miles) and play soccer once a week. Sometimes I'll pick up class at the gym to work on my ass and abs.

5. Where do you compare with regard to your parents:  do you feel like an adult, or still like the "kid?"  If you feel like an adult, when did you first feel that way?

That depends what day you catch me on. Friday night, I remember cleaning up after all the kids were in bed thinking "Am I REALLY the adult here? How did this happen!?  Someone actually let me have these kids?"

Other days, I feel like such an adult I want to run back to high school when I thought I had it rough.

6. Who is the last person you received a personal card or letter from that wasn't sent to mark a special occasion?

My friend Zoe from university. She always sends cards and letters rather than emails. I love that about her.

Feeling Happy

I was FIRST LAST TIME!!!

I knew I was first. I really did. I waited patiently all week to see it in print. :) I decided to post this in this blog cause I'm so proud!

From Patrick's Place

Picture from Hometown

1. What one song or melody can make you smile even when you're having a rotten day?

This is gonna sound stupid, but my high school boyfriend used to do a bit from "Milky Cereal" by LL Cool J and it was hilarious. I have the CD and whenever it comes off I smile a goofy smile.

2. What are your plans for the day?  How much of it do you think you'll actually accomplish?

Busy day. Kristyn had two basketball games this morning at 9am (they won both!). I have to do groceries and clean the house. Tonight I am headed out to a "Kitchen Party" with my neighbour and another friend. I am not driving. Enough said there.

3. What television show do you most enjoy watching when you're all alone and can devote your complete attention to it?

Joan of Arcadia. John doesn't like it so he talks while it's one.  He says he doesn't like Desperate Housewives, but he's quiet during that one, so I know he's lying.

4. What was the last thing you remember arguing with someone about?

The roles of the "housewife" (aka SAHM) with John. It's one we always have.

5. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #45 from
Bud:  Inspired by this article on cell phone technology, he asks, "What is your most aggravating public experience with a cell-phone user?"

About 4 years ago, I was taking Kristyn to the school bus. We got to the corner and a woman came barrelling around the corner in her huge honkin' SUV. She came within inches of hitting me (I had pushed Kristyn to the grass).  She stopped and I yelled "Watch out!". Her window was rolled down and I heard her say "I'll call you back, I almost hit some soccer Mom on my street."

6. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #46 from
Stacy:  Did you watch the Super Bowl and if you did, do you like the commercials, the half-time show OR the ceremony following the game the best?

I watched some with John and his friend. Mostly the halftime show.  In Canada the commercials are pre-empted with stupid Canadian commercials so I didn't get to see the good ones. I guess the halftime show was okay. I liked when PM played "Hey Jude"

A HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAUNCH!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALEXANDER!

My Baby Boy Is TWO!

It's a good day. :)

...and I can't think of a better day to switch over to my new blog. I love the way it looks and didn't realize how much I would enjoy being able to really customize it to my own taste (thanks to Angela!).  So, here I go!

Come on over and comment to let me know you're there. :)

This blog isn't going anywhere for at least 2 months while we transfer everything over, so you never know what you might find. :)

Angela Sparked A Question

Can only those with AOL or an AIM screen name read this blog? Or can anyone read and only screen name holders can comment?

Feeling Frustrated

In Blog Limbo

Well, the satellite internet set up is almost complete at the Farm. When it comes down to it, AOL really is no longer needed. There has been no reason to keep it the last two years.

Unfortunately, when AOL goes, so does my access to this journal.  The archives will stay, but there I cannot update it.

The good news (I think!), is that I have a new blog, but it's not ready yet. I've actually <gasp> paid for a blog! I just want it to be all spiffy and new when I give out the new URL.

I hope that those who read (especially those on AOL Journals) will follow me there?  I will of course, continue to read all of yours!

Check back in a few days!

Feeling Quiet
Hearing Dora again!

May as well just make a date for Friday now...

This week is so nervewrackingly insane that I think I will just tell John "Hey Man, see you at some point on Friday!"

I registered Meghan for Junior Kindergarten at the new school today. I was feeling so industrious (and a 12 year old in pajamas was watching Alex and Meg) that I also registered Kristyn and Erin for Grades 2 and 4. It's only Kindergarten registration this week, but the very nice secretary allowed me to do the big kids too.  In a moment of forethought so unlike me, I had brought along Kristyn and Erin's baptismal records and vax sheets, so we're all set. Wow. Now that seems more real than packing a few boxes.

I am on duty at the Nursery School today.  Right now I am in "I can't wait to spend some quality time with Meghan and her classmates" mode. That will turn into "All of these kids are learning impaired and bullies." mode at about 1:05pm.  I have some beer chilling in the fridge for the requisite drink after duty day. Actually, better make that vodka for some sort of 'tini.

It's just been announced that Meghan is "done" so I will go take care of that. Leading into our new plan for the week; "Teach Meghan to wipe her own butt before Kindergarten" !

Feeling Worried
Hearing LL - Hush

It seems more real now...

I just packed up three boxes to take to the farm tomorrow. It seems real when you start to put stuff in boxes. We have until May 1 to make this house look like no one actually lives here and put it on the market. We've committed ourselves to taking 4-5 boxes of junk every weekend until then. The floors need to be finished and the walls painted.  We have someone coming tomorrow for an estimate to paint the entire house. That should be cheap. (Yeah, and monkeys might fly out my butt!)

Returning from our trip to all of our junk made me realize that this house is bursting at the seems and I am now very much excited about moving.

I am registering Meghan for Junior Kindergarten at the new school on Monday. Kristyn is signing up for soccer in the new district next Saturday. Things are rolling along.

The business is moving to the farm in March. That's going to be good and bad. Good because it gets him out of my hair (you know I love that guy, but 24/7 for 5 years has gotten a bit old). Bad because I can't just say "Hey John, I'm going to the gym, here's Alex!"

Big adjustments all around. Fantastic. I am so good with change!

Edited To Add: Our schedulled move date is June 25-26!  The benefit to already having the house you're moving into is that you can make the date as flex as possible. I imagine by the time we actually move there all that will be left is the big furniture.

Hearing Gwen again!

Saturday Six

From Patrick's Place

1. What is your favorite restaurant to visit for breakfast and what do you order?

Broadway Bar and Grill!  Always get the #7 with two eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and pancakes.

2. Do you have any unique ability like those who appear on David Letterman's "Stupid Human Tricks?"  If so, how did you learn you had this talent?

Nothing beyond wiggling my ears and curling my tongue. I always wanted to do something weird like contort myself or squirt milk out my eye.

3. There are plenty of sites on the internet for pen pals; some of them are specifically designed for communicating with people in prison.  Have you ever or would you begin corresponding with a stranger who was in prison?

No and I really have nothing else. It never crossed my mind to even do it.

4. Name two questions you have always wanted to ask a pair of identical twins.

1 - Can you "hear" each other's thoughts?

2- Would you prefer to go through life as a singleton?

5. If you looked back at your high school yearbook photos, what is more embarrassing?  Your hair, your clothes, your glasses, or your complexion?

Mall bangs and blue eyeshadow! My complexion was terrible, but those two things are unforgivable.

6. If you had to change the color of one of the following, which would you change and why:  the walls in your living room, your car, or your eyes

Living room. It's decorated to sell. Beige. Blech. I want maroon or dark deep read.

Speech Update

Our screening at the First Words clinic went well last night. The speech pathologist was really good with Alex and even got him to say a few words I had not heard (in some form). I was impressed. She marked him down as having three perfect words, which is far below where he should be at his age (30-50 + words in 2 word sentences). That means he qualified for the program right there, but she continued on with the assessment.

She sees no obvious physical reason for him to not be talking. He is very social and enjoys mimicking. He does make an effort to speak and his tongue appears just fine. I didn't have his hearing tested after he was born so we are going to arrange for that to be done. He seems to hear just fine, but even the smallest impairment can cause problems with speech.

It will take about 6-8 weeks to hear from someone and then 6-9 months for it all to be underway. Unbelievable!  She did say that who knows where he will be by then, especially now that we've been given some reading on how to speak to him to get him to speak. Amazing how at kid #4 I'm learning that I really don't know how to talk to kids! By the time we get in, he may have blossomed and we can just cancel or continue on. I'm okay with that.

I'm feeling reassured and confident...
