She was a native of Emanuel County and lived in Lafayette for more than 40 years and for several years in Twin City. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Twin City and the widow of Brautus Perry Durden.
While in Lafayette, she was a member of First Baptist Church there, taught pre-school Sunday school more than 20 years, was president of the Women's Missionary Union, sang in the church choir and served in various other capacities. In Twin City, at First Baptist Church, she continued her work in the choir and WMU. She was a member of the Garfield Homemakers Club. She and her husband owned and operated the Durden Bakery in Lafayette.
SURVIVORS: two daughters, Mabry Jean D. King of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Melanie Ann D. Bynum of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Hugh Brautus Durden of Rome; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Hendley, Rountree and Powell Funeral Home in Swainsboro.
