Tyrone

Natalie Y. Moore and Natalie Hopkinson, two seasoned journalists and proud Black Feminists of the hip-hop generation, take a new look at media potrayals of black masculinity in their book 'Deconstructing Tyrone.' After your reaction to last week's guest Carmen Bryan, these two ladies are just what many of you say you're looking for. Well, we'll see. And before you start assuming that this book amounts to 'Bashing Tyrone,' you should listen to the interview. It won't be hard to understand why Tom Joyner, Jr. is giving them kudos "for presenting us in a true light."

I am going to read the book with an open mind, but I always question women who try to define men, as well as men who try to define women. I have a daughter and I thank GOD for her mother, we have gone to war over _____ and what she should or should not do, but mom always has the final word and my support. The best thing I can do for her is treat her mother and all women with the respect they deserve. It is fortunate that we are together and she saw that daily, but in families where dad is missing, for whatever reason, you have issues with boys and girls. Too many sisters belive that they can be mother and father, you can't no more than I could be father and mother. I am concerned because it is from this group of men that my child will select a husband, angry young men who have heard nothing but negative comments from bitter women about men, young men who never learned to share, compromise,or scarifice because they were moma's little man. I hope these young sisters examine this issue fairly and don't use this opportunity as just another chance to make a buck. Like so many before you.

We as a people need to hear how it really is, and what we should do to fix it.  The sad thing is that the truth hurts.  We just need to suck it up and accept it for what it is.
