Daddy's Little Girl Grows Up
You might think you know what life was like in the Pryor household, but trust me, you have no idea. That's how I felt after reading Rain Pryor's 'Jokes My Father Never Taught Me: Life, Love, and Loss with Richard Pryor.' Rain's father, the legendary comedian Richard Pryor, was an interesting man for many reasons, and his daughter is no different. During the interview Rain and I talked about the book, and which parts were most difficult for her to put on paper, but we also discussed her role as an MS Lifelines Ambassador. And, considering her father's infamous use of the n-word in his stand-up routines, I had to ask Rain what she thought about Michael Richards using it. Her response was classic! So check out the interview, read the excerpt and let me know what you think.

Richard was flawed, gentle, and a genious. We, who grew, under his tutorial, know just how rich he made our lives. Ask any comedian, or writer if he did not influence their work and I will tell you they are not as entertaining as they could have been.
Now Rain is poring over our souls, and no joke, she has an inside story of an American icon. My name is Donald Maurice Bouie. Author of "Four Friends", and Mr. Pryor taught me how to look into the depts of ones pain and happiness and find the story everyone could relate too. He was the best at what he did, and now his baby gets to shine. -
I feel that the "N " word has evolved. All people of the world unconsciously imitate blacks because of our high level of creativity. I mean who else could take a word like that and recreate its meaning so that we would even call each other the same name in front of the oppressors to a point to where little white kids and other races across the globe call themselves the "N" word. WOW!!! Admit it Black people we are influencial and powerful people to do things like that. So lets STOP being so hard on ourselves. Its bad enough the world hates us for who we are anyway,(Original Man) and the only people still trying to hold on to the old meaning off the "N" word is the racist white men. we can hear it in their usage of the word. The good side of it is our ancestors are laughing in thier graves listening to slave masters children calling each Ngrs. Im actually happy for their souls....

I would like to know why is it all right for our own folks to say the word that was designed to belittle us as people. No the word dose hold power just like the idiots that gave us that name. The Spaniards called us Negro which stands for black. Seeing him the Caucasian could not say the Spanish word. So then said it the way they meant to, Which is a tribe of people from Africa. A lower human to them. Sorry I really think that if you are putting a man on the cross for saying what our own say then we pretty much are still in slaved. No man should use a word that belittles another man. That I think was what was given to Mr. Pryor when he visited Africa. Just my opinion

iI like to thank Rain for that remark on the N word, and we should stop allowing people to to use the N word as if it have with in it self power, We as a people already know who we are. We are define by our own self worth. We are progressive people. The N word will not stop us, we will not suffer , and our pride will not let us suffer, and only the truth will strength us and gives power to stand in the face of greatness, eye to eye

It is as simple as this. Right/wrong or indifferent, people in THE FAMILY can say things that other people can't. IN the family it has a different meaning than from people outside the family.
