Feeling Angry
Hearing Peter Gabriel - Big Time

…and Into the First Pick

Picture from Hometown

I’m on my way, I’m making it
I’ve got to make it show, yeah
So much larger than life
I’m going to watch it growing
The place where I come from is a small town
They think so small
They use small words
-but not me
I’ve had enough, I’m getting out
To the city, the big big city
I’ll be a big noise with all the big boys

Brodrick Bunkley – DT, Florida St. 6-3, 285 lbs. Review from About.com football:

Positives:
Has the size you look for in a defensive tackle. He is very explosive off the ball, causing havoc in the backfield. The athleticism that he shows is very impressive especially at his size. Should provide a good pass rush for any team.

Negatives:
If you run the ball straight at him he is very ineffective. He tends to have trouble with bigger offensive lineman and is pushed backwards very easily. In the NFL he will be strictly a third-down pass rusher. A very soft defender that plays patty cake with offensive lineman.

Overview:
Brodrick Bunkley has the great size you look for, but he seems very soft. He has a chance to be productive but I just can't see him translating well into the NFL. Teams will give him a shot but I believe they will be very disappointed.

The Brew Review:
Okay, what were the Eagles thinking here? One of the premier OTs fall into their laps, and the NovaCare Mothership selects a DT with the reputation of being soft! Sure, Bunkley had an eye-popping 42 reps at 225, and he has great penetration when he's not the point of attack of the opposing offense's play. But in the NFL, controlling and holding the point of attack is key; and this man's rep is the exact opposite.

Fortunately, he's got great mentors in Philly with Hollis Thomas and Mike Patterson. Brodrick has three solid months of workouts at the Mothership to bulk himself up to over 300 LBs to allow him to withstand the rigors of the pro game, and more than likely, will be a staple of the passing-down defenses early in his career.

We'll see in a few weeks what this man has to show for himself at the Eagles rookie camp. Stay tuned!
