Feeling Ecstatic
Hearing Sick Of It All – Free Spirit

…and Into Day Two Pick No. 147

Picture from Hometown
Even when kept in restraint
The spirit continues to thrive.
Lies and deception
Won't change the direction of will
In it's fight to survive.
Figures of oppression
Breathing down our necks
Free spirit continues to thrive
Free spirit in the
Face of denial this oppression,
The depression
Answer it with indignation

Next to grace the Love Park obstacles that have become the destination of skate-boarders and X-Games athletes… Oh wait! Love Park is closed! Philadelphia is no longer the Mecca for extreme athletes that is once was. He's an Olympic Athlete, hasn't played a down of football since the NCAA screwed him out of his eligibility due to his chosen occupation, and has been involved with more pursuits being in front of the lens rather than gazing upward waiting to gather in a kick and run like hell.

So it makes perfect sense for the Eagles to spend their 5th round pick on Jeremy Bloom, right? Of course it does! One thing Bloom brings anywhere he goes is attitude! Call him a typical short guy with a Napoleon complex if you wish. The man marches to his own drummer, to his own beat, in the face of any opposition, and will always deliver his best shot to his foes. What's not to like about the kid?

Sports Illustrated 2006 NFL Draft Preview:

BIO:
Lettered as a wide receiver and kick returner for Colorado in 02 and 03. Receiving numbers included 22/356/1 as a sophomore. Averaged 16.8 yards on 20 punt returns with two scores as a freshman. Competed in 2006 Winter Olympics as a freestyle skier.

POSITIVES:
Gifted athlete with game-changing skills as return specialist. Explosive, tough to tackle and has both size and strength. Works hard and has a terrific build.

NEGATIVES:
Has not played football for two seasons. Lacks the height to be anything other than a fifth receiver.

ANALYSIS:
A solid athlete, Bloom's recent headlines are a result of what he's done off the field more than anything else. A late round choice brought into an organization as return specialist.

What this pick tells the Brewboy is that first, J.R. Reed's rehabilitation of the nerve damage he sustained to his knee is not going well, and second, that the Eagles braintrust is seeing the end if Reno Mahe's Eagles career. We all loved Mahe's grit and determination at the start of his career, but lately, he seems to be a step slower; being tackled by the shoelaces on plays he formerly broke open.

It's time to make a change on the Eagles Special Teams, and Jeremy Bloom is the man to put a new face on that part of the 2006 Eagles.
