Detroit Pistons tied the series
The Detroit Pistons did something that I wasn't sure they could do; shut down Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili. But the combination of a swarming defense and good offense allowed the Piston to pull away from the Spurs in the fourth quarter and finish with a very impressive 31 point win; 102-71.
As I was following the game online I really didn't feel at any point in the game that the Spurs were going to make it a game. The Pistons defense clamped down on the Spurs and never really gave them easy looks at the basket. I am hoping that the Piston's carry the defensive intensity into game 5 and 6 so we can end it in 6. I am not really counting on that happening though, I fully expect there to be a game 7 and Detroit will win it and capture our second straight NBA Finals Trophy.
Game 4 was much different than Game 3 in which Richard Hamilton led all scorers with 24 points, in this game we had 7 players in double figures and Hamilton barely broke 10 points. I would much rather have all off our players contribute to the scoring then have one of two players score and the points.
The Pistons were able to hold Tim Duncan down and Manu Ginobili to their lowest point's production in the Finals and that was a big part of why we were able to win by 31 points.
It was great to watch the Pistons flying to the ball and disruption passing lanes and causing a high number of turnovers which lead to quick points on the other end of the court. I just hope the Piston's don't run out intensity before the Finals are over because they will need it to beat the Spur's.
My pick for the MVP of the first four games for the Detroit Pistons has to be Ben Wallace; he has shown so much intensity and tenacity on the court. He always seems to be in the right place when he is needed to bust up an offensive set by the Spurs or dogging his man to keep him from making an easy basket.
On the offensive side of the court he hustles for loose balls or fights hard for rebounds. He is constantly fighting for the easy put backs and offensive rebounds to keep a scoring opportunity alive.

Detroit Pistons revenge the two losses
In an amazing display of basketball talent, the Detroit Pistons came back to the Palace in Auburn Hills and beat the San Antonio Spurs in game #3 of the NBA Finals. Unlike the first two games in which nothing seemed to fall for the Pistons, everything was going their way.
Ben Wallace had an amazing first half in which he blocked 5 shots and finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks and three steals and his teammates were able to capitalize on his defensive prowess to go into halftime 1 point down; 42-41.
On the offensive side of the court the Pistons had 4 of it 5 starters ended up in double figures and Antonio McDyess came off the bench to score 12 points. Tayshaun Prince and Chauncey Billups combined for 32 points (Billups 20 and Prince 12). Rasheed Wallace added his usual energy to help propel the Pistons to a 96-79 win.
The Pistons sealed the deal in the fourth quarter and where able to keep the Spurs off balance. Richard Hamilton woke up from the funk he was in for the first two games and went off for 24 points. When the Pistons needed to rely on a single player to take over the game they normally call on Chauncey Billups and last night it was no different. Billups has the range to hit three pointers and the ability to penetrate to the basket at will.
I think game 4 will be another high energy game and Detroit will win again and tie the series up 2 to 2. I am predicting the Pistons will take the Finals in 7 games and win their second straight Title.

The Detroit Pistons are in the NBA Finals again

In the 7th and decided game in the Eastern Conference Championship Series, the Detroit Pistons were able to hold off the Miami Heat and put themselves 4 wins away from their second NBA Championship in a row.
Despite having Shaq and Dewayne Wade playing in the game the Pistons finished off the Heat and put them in the Finals for the second year on a row. Wade ended up playing in the game despite a rib injury that kept him out of game six, but he wasn't much of a factor in the fourth quarter which proved to be insurmountable for the Heat.
Winning the Conference Championship puts us up against a very difficult San Antonio Spurs. I know they can beat the Spurs since the season record is 1-1 between the two teams. I am hoping that the kind of defense that that the Pistons play will be enough to keep down the high scoring Spurs with their leader Tim Duncan.
I think if the Pistons continue to play their style of strong defense and consistent offense we will be the NBA Champs again. What I think is amazing about the Pistons is that we don't have any recognizable superstars on our team, but what we have is chemistry that can't be denied. Ben Wallace is one of the top defensive centers in the game and Rasheed Wallace is a pretty darn good Power Forward.
To be honest I was a bit worried when I found out that Joe Dumars brought in Rasheed Wallace, I was worried that his hair trigger temper would mess up our team chemistry. But I have to admit that I am pleasant surprised to be wrong. Wallace has been able to corral his temper when he needs to and be a great addition to Hamilton and Prince on the offensive end of the court.
I think we match up very well with the Spurs because Tim Duncan and Ben Wallace play the same type of game; finesse rather than over powering. I also think we can run with them and play slow down to keep them under control.

Feeling Frustrated
It's funny the Pacer's have no regard for justice
I think it is ridiculous that the Indiana Pacer's are more worried about their fortunes than the integrity of the NBA. They only care about getting a player back from suspension so they don't lose anymore games. The funny thing is that Jermaine O'Neal will probably go back on suspension after the judge rules on the merits of the case.
All the judge decided was that he was going to let him play until after he finishes reviewing the facts in the case. Even though the Player's Union knows dam well that the Arbitrator didn't have the authority to make a ruling on the suspension in the first place.
The rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed by both the League and the Player's Union states that the Stern has final say on conduct on the court and what O'Neal was suspended for occurred on the court and the Player's Union know darn well that they were wrong in going aroung Stern in the first place.
They are just hoping that the judge will agree with them and in essesence violate the contract for them. That should come to no surprise to anyone since judges (liberal judges) have been doing that quite frequently lately.
If the Player's Union had a problem with giving Stern the power of final resolution for on court actions they shouldn't have signed the contract in the first place.

Feeling Hopeful
Orange Bowl 2004
This years Orange Bowl is approaching I think back to 2000 and that years Orange Bowl. I guess the biggest reason was thinking about it is because my favorite college football team is again playing in this years Orange Bowl game and as it was in 2000 the Oklahoma Sooner's will be playing for a NCAA College Football National Title.
The difference between then and now is their opponent; back in 2000 we played the #2 Florida Seminoles and this year we play the #1 ranked USC Trojan's. As it was back then know one seems to think that we deserve to play in the title game even though we are undefeated and Big 12 Conference Champions.
I figure it is just sour grapes that their team didn't make it or they are just ignorant to how good the Sooner's actually are. Either way it really don't matter what they think because the voters decided and we are going to be in Miami, Florida on January 4th playing for our schools 8th National Title and second in six years.
I think the Sooner's are in a much better position this time around and it is because our running game and passing game are firing on all cylinders. With Adrian Peterson finishing 2nd in the Heisman Trophy voting and Jason White finishing 3rd our offense is in better shape than it was back in 2000. The main reason is because Josh Heupel was not 100% in the game and Jason White is top shape and ready to FINISH the season. The other reason is Adrian Peterson is a better all around back then Griffin was in the 2000 season.
I don't believe that USC is any better than Florida State was back in 2000 and for that reason I don't believe USC's offense will have any success against us in the game. Matt Lineart had a good season, but in my mind he didn't deserve the Heisman Trophy and he will show it in the game. Just like Chris Weinke proved in the 2000 Orange Bowl he didn't deserve the Heisman over Heupel I think Lineart will fare the same in this years Orange Bowl.
I am looking forward to the Orange Bowl as much as I did in 2000 and I am hoping for a higher scoring game for OU and less points for USC. I would love to see an old fashion butt kicking by the Sooner's and see our team hang half a hundred on Matt Whineart and the USC Trojan's. In reality I just want to see a win for the Sooner's even if it is by a point.

Feeling Happy
The Heisman Trophy was presented
I was extremely proud of Adrian Peterson of Oklahoma; he finished second as a freshman. No freshman has ever finished second in the Heisman voting until now. He had a phenominal freshman season and it will culminate in the National Championship Game in Miami.
I have been watching college football for more than 30 years and I don't remember anyone coming in as a true freshman and have the impact that Adrian Peterson has on our team. Even if Jason White didn't win the second Heisman in his 6th and final season, he still has his mind set on the ADT National Championship Trophy.
I will give Lineart his due for being selected as the 2004 Heisman Trophy winner, but I am much more proud of our Sooner finalists; Adrian and Jason.

Feeling Frustrated
The Steroid Scandal
I am really getting tired of this so called scandal involving several high profile players and I wish it would just go away. These are grown men and if they want to destroy their bodies it is up to them.
Major league baseball, NBA, NFL and NHL don't really seem to be interested in stopping the usage of the substances and since they don't have have strong enough penalties and regulations that cover the usage of illegal substances.
In my opinion the media is over blowing this whole situation as they always do. It is pretty amazing that we are receiving all this leaked information in the media from a Grand Jury that is supposed to be secret. It just goes to show you that nothing is sacred or no one is protected from the media lizards that are just trolling for all the dirt they can muster.
Part of this leaked information came a revelation that Barry Bonds testified that he was given two substances; "Cream" and "Clear". We found out the these two substances turned out to be a undetectable steroid GHB and it was created by a company called BALCO. His personal trainer is up to his eyeballs in this legal battle between the Justice Department and BALCO.
The really sad part is that Barry Bonds testified that he used the two substances but he is claiming that his trainer didn't tell him that it was a steroid. As soon as Bond's admitted to using the substances everyone and their brothers started calling him a liar and cheater. These same people are calling for him to be banned and stripped of any records or place an asterick by any records.
The trouble with that is they can't legally do that since the substance wasn't banned from baseball at the time he admitted to taking it. They can't just up and decide to do that without a legal argument.
So until MLB and the Player's union can agree on the testing and punishments for drug use, nothing will bedone or can be done to the current players under the suspicion of steroid use. So I just wish the media would wait until they actually have some concrete information to write about and stop dragging these players name through the mud without proper evidence. No one but Barry Bonds know what he was thinking or who told him anything, until then just lay off him.
It looks like the Players Union and MLB might be close to an agreement on a solution to the drug problem in baseball. But I won't hold my breath that anything will really change. I think if MLB and the owners get too crazy with the punishments it will hurt baseball's attenance and it will kill Baseball again. Fans like me want to see scoring and not a stupid pitcher's duel that last 90 minutes. I want to see high scoring and exciting games. I really don't care if someone wants to kill themselves to have an advantage over the young pups in the league.
Afterall, if you take the juice away they will just find another way to enhance their workouts. Steroids don't guaranty hugh muscle mass just by injecting, absorbing or ingesting the substance, requires alot of hard work in the gym to work at it. All steroids do is help your muscles recover faster and allow the user to work out again much sooner.

Feeling Ecstatic
The Sooner's just put an EXCLAMATION POINT on this season
Sooner's strike a pose
It looks like the OU and USC will be meeting in the Orange Bowl for the unanimous National Champion. The OU Sooner's demolished the Colorado Buffalo's on both sides of the ball. On offense we scored 42 points thanks to both of our Heisman hopefuls; QB Jason White 3 TD passes and Adrian Peterson 3 TD runs.
The defense was equally if not more amazing then our offense; they held a pretty strong Colorado offense to less than 50 yards of total offense. When needed, the defensive line provided the pass rush that nearly stalled their offense dead in their tracks and the secondary coverage was nearly flawless.
The funny thing about that was up until this game the secondary was very suspect in the past several games and it was due in part to the return of DB Antonio Perkin's. He had a great play in the first half where he stepped in front of the intented receiver and deflected the ball up into the air and he then showed his athleticism and came up with the interception.
A couple of other players stood out on the defense in the game on Saturday night; one was Lawerance (Mo) Dampeer and the other was Larry Birdine. The two of them rotate as defensive tackles and they wreaked havic on the Colorado offensive line. Dampeer had several pass blocks in pretty key situations and it helped to corral the Colorado offense. Despite his limited playing time in the beginning of the season due to personal issues (lack of work ethic and being out of playing shape) he has come on in the last couple of games and proved that with a bit more conditioning he will be playing much more next season.

Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooner football team is one win away from playing in the Orange Bowl for the 2004 College Football National Championship. In the history of Oklahoma Football the Orange Bowl has been the site of many great victories for the Sooners.
If they can get the win on Saturday against the Colorado Buffalo's we will no doubt be in the game and have a shot at winning a second National Title for coach Bob Stoops and the 8th National Title for the school. If Oklahoma wins the Orange Bowl and goes on to win the National Title for coach Stoops it will put him one title away from two legendary OU coaches (Barry Switzer and Bud Wilkerson) and that will put him in very elite company.
In the six seasons as a head coach here at OU coach Stoops has enjoyed much success and a little failure. He has been to summit, but he has alson been to valley and hopefully we can reach the summit again this season and finish this season right. The players and coaches have had a specific goal in mind for this season and it is to finish the season the right way and not walk away empty handed. Last season the Sooner's ended the regular season undefeated and qualified for the Big 12 championship game and they were ranked #1 in the BCS and looking to play someone in the Sugar Bowl for the National Title game. But we ran into a road block and didn't finish the way we planned. We played Kansas State University in the Big 12 title game and we got beat and some how we still made it to the Sugar Bowl and got beat by LSU and lost our shot at the title.
Hopefull that will be different this year and it will start on Saturday evening in Kansas City. I am sure the Sooner's will be much more mindful of what Colorado can do and not repeat what we saw last year in the Big 12 title game. I am a little fearful since we haven't faced Colorado this year and all they can do is watch film and game plan.

Feeling Hopeful
The latest BCS rankings were released
Barring a major collapse by the Oklahoma Sooner's or USC the 2004 Orange Bowl looks to be a matchup between OU and USC. With the release of the latest BCS Poll this afternoon, it has USC entrenched at #1 and OU solidly at #2. USC actually gained on OU and unless they lose the last game of their regular season which is against UCLA they will finish #1. OU has the advantage of being the top ranked team according to the computer rankings and they actually gained some points in the human polls.
Now with that said, one team is going to be left out of the National Championship game even though they will also be undefeated. That of course hinges upon them beating Tennessee in the SEC Championship game. If they beat Tennessee and finish the season undefeated they will still not move up unless the Sooner's somehow lose to Colorado in the Big 12 Title game. It is still possible that OU could lose and it happened to us last year against KSU.
I am definitely not going to lose any sleep over all the crying Auburn fans that think just because they are being told by all the so called experts that the SEC is so much better than the Big 12 so they should automatically jump over OU in the polls and play for the NC. As evident by the computer ranking OU played a tougher schedule and that is the main reason why we are ranked ahead of Auburn.
I heard all the bellyaching I could from all the USC fans last year when OU was selected to play in the National Title game against LSU and USC got left out. As it turned out they had the easiest root to a NC then LSU did and that is because they had to play and much easier opponent (University of Michigan) in the Rose Bowl and then of course the AP voters were upset and they gave half of the title USC even though they really didn't deserve it. This year I don't foresee a split National Title; OU is going to win out right and leave all the crying Auburn and USC fans crying in their beers.
