Feeling Ecstatic

The Lion's won a game

The Detroit Lion's finally made a change that I have been waiting for since the start of the season. Coach Mariucci finally pulled the trigger and benched the loser Joey Harrington.

Jeff Garcia who returned to practice after breaking his leg during preseason was given the start of todays game against the Cleveland Browns. The result was a 13-10 win for the Detroit Lions.

I am not going to say that Jeff Garcia had a super game. but he did one thing that Joey Harrington couldn't seem to do; protect the football. Jeff Garcia didn't throw a TD, but he didn;t fumble or throw any INT's. He did however, have a rushing touchdown that capped off a scoring drive.

Garcia finished with pretty impressive stats minus a passing TD, but he did complete more than 50% of his passes. He finished with 22-34 for 210 yards and 0 TD's, but he did have a rushing TD.

The defense again was the big story with 3 INT's and a forced fumble recovery. The defense held the Browns to 174 total yards including a a mear 56 yards threw the air.

"Jeff does things Joey can't do," left tackle Jeff Backus said. "I mean, that's obvious....

"Don't get me wrong. I love Joey. He's a great guy. But Jeff, he's 35 years old. He's been around the block. He's got something about him. He definitely helped us out today."

The Lions are like my golf game...can never put it all together. OK...now the defense is cranking up. They were absent 6 years ago. But now...we have no offense. I will always be a Lions fan, but destined to suffer the fate of Chicago. The NFL doesn't want them to win a championship. Neither does Ford.

I too, am a life long long Lions fan and at 47 have suffered a few more years than you, but its the same pain. Hey, we're like cubs fans,  we are always optimistic!!
Garcia is the short term answer to get through this injury prone season. I think Joey got thrown to the wolves to early. I remember applauding thanksgiving day aginst the pats when he threw the ball away instead of throwing into coverage. He needs more time observing a veteran. He feels pressure when its not there and doesnt feel it when it is there. Im not writing him off yet, but, for this season...GO GARCIA.

Jeff Backus should show Jeff Garcia a lot of Man Love the way he played with Joey back there was pathetic. Jeff Backus is a putz.  But anyway ill take the win.  Jeff G was Ok but i am not jumping on his back just yet. Give me a few more weeks to warm up to him.  Im not ruling out JOey being back. But i will say this about your QB Jon.  he is definitley more exciteing to watch than mr harrington.

Thanks, that is what I have been dealing with for years now with my Lions. I was ecstactic when read that Mariucci finally was able to put Garcia in as the starter and it paid dividends for the offense.
