Feeling Sad

Detroit Lion's are done

It sure looks like the Detroit Lion's are done for the 2005 season and it doesn't look like they will even reach the 6-10 record at I predicted. Nothing the offense has tried seems to be working.

I have backed off my heavy criticism of Joey Harrington after it was brought to my attention by my fellow Lion's blogger Frank that the playing calling has been horrible along with poor offensive line play.

The Lion's were soundly beaten by the Atlanta Falcon's yesterday on Ford Field in downtown Detroit. The Lion's have been playing on Thanksgiving Day every year since 1937 in Detroit.

I would love to be able to put all the blame on Harrington, but I know that would be totally unfair to him so I won't do it. It just looked like the offense was totally in chaos and I am sure the fingers will be pointed this morning in the Detroit papers and on the radio stations.

    gbubbletop,

I have to wonder if Millan and the rest of the draft room analyzed the team before they went into the draft last year. It is obvious they didn't see that we needed a big time Offensive Lineman or two. Instead they picked up a WR in the first round.

    Nik,

You are 100% corrct in your assessment of the problem with the Lion's as a team and that is why we need a change at the head man position and it is becoming obvious to me that Millen was a fine football player, but he isn't as good as a front office guy.

I LIKE TO SEE SOME OTHER PEOPLE SEEING WHAT I'VE SAYING SINCE WE HAD THE BEST BACK IN HISTORY. THE LIONS NEED AN OFFENSIVE LINE. THEY KEEP SENDING THE BACK UP THE MIDDLE,WELL COACHES WATCH THE TAPE THERES NO MIDDLE THERE.START WATCHING SOME TAPE OF COLLEGE MAYBE DRAFT ACOUPLE OF LINEMAN THAT HAVE BEEN PLAYING TOGETHER FOR SOME TIME.WHEN WE DRAFTED BACKUS I WAS HOPEFUL FOR HUTCHINSON.IF THEY DONT WANT TO GET A LINE,THEY NEED A FASTER BACK TO RUN OUTSIDE AND A QB THAT CAN THROW WHILE HE IS RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE [MIKE M]. OH YEA WE HAD JOEY DONT NEED MIKE. I ALSO AGREE FORD NEEDS TO BUY A FOR SALE SIGN HE IS NOT A GOOD OWNER HES TO WORRIED ABOUT GETTING HIS CAR COMMERCIALS ON AND NOT WHETHER THE TEAM IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR PEOPLE TO ACTUALLY BE WATCHING THE GAME.

If you are interested in an opinion that is not locked in the box, but out side of the box, then read on. The Lions have 3 A+ Wideouts and an A+ Running back. Everyone seems to Agree on this. The Lions have some remarkable talent on the defensive side of the ball as well, This also seems to be agreed upon. What is missing is a Leader? A voice followed by action, a motivational tool," Discipline"!!
All of the players are Professional's at what they do, but yet they can't discipline them selves, prepare them selves mentally to perform the job they have been taught to do. As a Franchise they have failed. Without Discipline there will be no Execution. The ball will travel through the air only to find rest upon the field.
This in my opinion is the down fall of the Lions Franchise, not an individuals fault, but an entire Franchise's fault.

    Steve,

You make a great point, we never should have drafted Mike Williams even though he was available. It would have made much better sense to pick the best offensive lineman at that spot.
