Feeling Ecstatic

The suspense is over in Detroit

According to a story I read on Foxsports.com the Detroit Lion's have fired Steve Mariucci as their head coach effective immediately. I was hoping this would happened right after the debacle on Thursday, but when it didn't happen I started to worry that he would be given the rest of the season to right the ship.

Well, I guess over the weekend the Lion's President Matt Millen had second thoughts and fired coach Mariucci today. I heard on the radio that two assistants were axed also, but I haven't been able to confirm which coaches it was.

At the time of Foxsports posting the story on their website it wasn't know whether Millen would immediately name Defensive Coordinator Dick Jauron as the interim head coach or not.

Some might say that Steve Mariucci should have been given more time to turn the team around, but after two and half seasons he has only managed to win 15 games and that just isn't acceptable.

The expectations were high in Detroit that the Lion/s might actually have a good season with Joey Harrington going into his fourth year as the starting QB and some big name players at the skill positions that we should have a breakout year. Well, that hasn't happened and in fact we have gotten worse.

I will admit that I have put much of the blame for our poor results on the shoulders of QB Joey Harrington and I have come to find out that it isn't entirely his fault. It seems that our offensive line and play calling are probably more responsible than any one player.

Hopefully this change will light a fire under the entire football team and we can win some games. My original prediction for the season was for the Lion's to finish 6-10 and I was being optimistic based on our schedule. With the Lion's sitting at 4-7 with 5 games to go even if we won our last 5 games we still wouldn't make the playoffs unless both Chicago and Minnesota totally collapse.

So with a coaching change I definitely think 8-8 is possible, but it looks like 6-10 is more likely.

I have to agree with you on this one. I think his draft choices were very questionable at best.

I agree with you, the Ford family need to look now at Millen. He could be next on the chopping block.
