Ink on photo print of Rock/Foliage
I apologize for the askew image that I had to take with my camera.
Also, I would not consider this anything but a hobbie that I used to pass time with - at the moment. Here it is April 15, 08 following my successfull back surgery. This is an example of something done to pass time and take my mind off of back pain. I now do hobbie type art work to take my mind off of smoking cigarette's. I do beleive that for people in intense pain, smoking cigarette's should be their choice. I think I was better off smoking the 5 rolled cigarette's a day. My quitting is for myself, and not as a message for others'.
The image of the rock face was taken years ago with a Minolta 35mm and scanned from a poster print into my computer. Using bottles of colored ink and mixing them in drops on a plastic tray, I use a small plastic 'dental pick' to use as a pen or brush. I am working on gloss photo paper so it sticks and dries immediately. I had adjusted the image using editing tools before I made the photo print and did do some drawing into the very bottom edge but mostly left it looking 'fog like'. This is where I am doing the inking as it looked like I had only started working on creating artwork in the photo. I make the individual prints with a casual approach to drawing, and not a pre-set exact pattern to follow.

Argentine Gauchos

I worked from a photo in National Geographic using a griding system on tracing paper I placed over the photo. On Mylar film I began inking with rapidograph pen referring to the photo with a grid penciled on the Mylar film. This gives me two things: a rough sketch outlining the entire image, and by going grid by grid a detailed observation of the image. I used a lot of artist license and my drawing does not attempt to 'copy' the photo. During my work on the image I was not in college but showed the drawing to my professor and was given some great advise during it's making. I will always be indebted to his guidance as he helped me develope as an artist. The reason for the drawing being done on Mylar film instead of Illustration Board was to be able to use the drawing itself as a film positive to make an etching plate. This drawing was done in 1979.

Untitled Artwork from the 1970's
As a student at S. IL. University in the mid 1970's our drawing class went to a park in Carbondale, IL. where some of the street people were at. Our instructor paid for several bottles of wine of the type which they were accustomed to drinking (Muscatel, I believe) in exchange for them to sit as model's for us to draw. I did some sketching but this is not from that. As friend found a B/W photo on the ground of one of the very same gentleman we used as one of the model's in the park. I used the photo to create this drawing in colored pencil, and rapidiograph pen inking. Behind him to the left is actually a part of the park. To the right I referred to a photo of a sunset with ocean, wave, and beach. Another photo of a lion is from an advertisment. The rest is from imagination. It is as if the subject is dreaming a bizarre dream. I added a little train as the actual train tracks running thru Carbondale would be directly behind him.

Little Lake
I thought I would post this composite photo/graphic on this page, for the people who follow my journal and share photos. I do not like the water because it is too plain, and am altering it and adding cattails on a land protrusion in the foreground. By putting together 4 photos of the shoreline, and creating the sky and water, is how this image developed.

Saturday evening
Loopy
Taken Saturday evening while Salty dog is back from exploring the neighborhood. Might have visited some children and other dogs. He should know where to stay away from. It's all open overgrowth of my neighbors surrounding land. He does not even get to the black top that I know of. Since he's nuetured he should not be a problem. He was only allowed on the leash all winter since I got him last August. I have a treat for him waiting that he knows I have, and that seems to be an incentive to get back home.

Baby dove outside of my door
I would like to say that after reading about John (Krissy's husband), that by having the comments from what were once "strangers", that sincere friendships have evolved. Talking about whatever we want, and knowing that people are really interested and concerned is such a tremendous outlet. I have more to say, but will leave it at that for now.
