Being Sick Is Now A Crime In Arizona

In Arizona, right this minute, is a man imprisoned. He is in solitary confinement with no TV, no radio, the only means of washing himself is a basin of water and a wash cloth.  His connection to the world is a pay phone.  His crime according to the state is having TB.

This man is being treated worse than any criminal and yet has harmed no one.  Does he deserve to be treated in this manner?  Does anyone?

He has a disease, a serious one.  He deserves compassion and education, not solitary confinement.

Build a Better Bicycle and the RNC Will Consider You A Terror Suspect

So the NYC police were used to spy on people prior to the 2004 Republican convention.  Shades of Tricky Dick.  And yet, it's after 9/11, so we should more careful, right?

Well, you might be right if they were only investigating individuals or groups that they had reason to believe were planning on breaking the law.  According to the Handschu guidelines, the police must have "some indication of unlawful activity on the part of the individual or organization to be investigated."  That was not the case in a lot of cases.

The most absurd was the investigation of Joshua Kinberg, a graduate design student, who designed a new bicycle that could squirt water-soluble chalk to print messages received from the Internet.  Cool idea for marketing or activism but hardly dangerous.  But that's not what the New York Police Department thought.  Their report stated, "This bicycle, having been built for the sole purpose of protesting during the R.N.C., is capable of spraying anti-R.N.C.-type messages on surrounding streets and sidewalks, also supplying the rider with a quick vehicle of escape."

Notice what they consider dangerous.  They are concerned about anti-Republican statements, anti-Bush.  One has to wonder who paid for all the overtime and the travel time since it would appear that the RNC's ego was what was being protected.

For being potentially anti-RNC, they placed Mr. Kinberg under arrest and his bike was kept for a year.  Arrest for riding a bike and writing on the sidewalk with chaulk.  Sounds as though the RNC needs to consider putting in a swing set in the next Gitmo.

Ernie Fletcher's Latest Ads

Have you seen Ernie Fletcher's latest ads?  According to his ads, Ernie Fletcher was a kid who had been bullied by the big kids but was able to hold his head up high.

Something tells me that Ernie is smoking something and it's not Kentucky best cash crop, well, not the legal one, anyway.

Ernie Fletcher promised the citizens of Kentucky that he would clean up the corruption from the last administration.  Sounds good.  Only problem is that he merely replaced it with corruption of his own.

And as for bullies, well, kicking good hard working people out of their jobs so that you can replace them with your buddies who have no experience in those fields comes across more as bullying to me than the investigation into your behavior.

And does it help you hold your head up high to pardon all your cronies?  Or does holding your head up just help you not look in the face the people you treated so badly in the name of cronyism.

Valerie Plame Testimony - Who Insulates Bob Novak?

Valerie Plame’s testimony before Congress told us things we already knew, namely that she was had been a covert operative and she had been working on WMD. But we also discovered something we didn’t know that opens up some fascinating questions.

Ms. Plame and her husband had gotten wind that her identity was going to be leaked and notified her bosses in the CIA. They, in turn, had a spokesman for the CIA contact Bob Novak and ask him not to write the piece.

Consider that for a minute. The CIA contacts Bob Novak and asks him not to “out” a covert operative during a time of war and he does it anyway. He does it anyway. Why? He knows at this point that he’s outing someone that is important enough to national security that the CIA would call, so what’s his motivation? It can’t be because he thinks that the idea that she might have sent her husband on a “pleasure cruise” to Iraq is that big a news story. I mean, come on, Mr. Novak has been around D.C. enough to know that you don’t “out” an operative, especially during war. You don’t put your country’s safety at risk and nor risk going to jail for treason for a “tit for tat” political snipe.

Or do you? Do you, if you know that you have someone powerful enough to protect you, someone who would have to protect you, otherwise they would be discovered to be involved in treason as well?

Now who would be powerful enough to insulate Bob Novak under these kind of conditions?

This Sums It Up Completely

'I know where  weapons of mass destruction are...
Joblessness  is a weapon of mass destruction.
Poverty  is a weapon of mass destruction.
Homelessness  is a weapon of mass destruction.
Poor health care  is a weapon of mass destruction.
And when the government lies to the American people,
that is a weapon of mass destruction.'

Unconscionable Attack on Newborn Americans

Most days I get a kick out of watching politicians shoot themselves in the foot trying to get their names in the paper.  That's most days.  But when a political wannabe like Warren Co., OH commissioner, David Young decides to prove how tough he is by attacking children, I get ticked.

Mr. Young has decided that grown-up illegal aliens and their wealthy employers are just to hard to deal with so he picks on their kids.  David Young wants to deny children born in this country to illegal aliens birth certificates.

It's obvious that Mr. Young has not read the Constitution or he would be aware of the 14th Amendment which guarantees that individuals born in America are American citizens.  By preventing these children from having an identity and the rights they were born with David Young believes he has struck a blow for what he believes are the real Americans when all he has done ignorantly suggest a plan which would place thousands of children at risk.

With no identity children can more easily be abused.  How can you call and say you child has been molested when you can't prove your child exists?  If you child is stolen you can't prove kidnapping because there's no proof of custody.  We ask that all children be immunized but if we have no idea that the child exists we have no way to make sure that it occurs.  And if it doesn't occur that child could die of illnesses that are wholly preventable and possibly infect "real American children" before they do.

One has to wonder, if this plot actually worked who else's children would Mr. Young and his cohorts strip of citizenship?  Would he continue with the other minority races or would he move on to different religions and political parties?

I hope that this proposal is treated as what it is - the rantings of an ignorant individual attempting to pulling himself up the political ladder over the bodies of newborn citizens.

Medical Question for America

                                                                                                                                      http://www.knx1070.com/image/knx/UserFiles/Image/walter%20reed%20investigation.jpg

Recognizing that in a perfect world all Americans should have first rate health care, let me present you with this situation:

You have two individuals and two hospital beds.

The first hospital bed is at George Washington Hospital, one of the finest hospitals in the country. It has a wonderful reputation for care and it’s accommodations are like staying in a four star hotel suite.

The second bed is at Walter Reed Hospital. At one time, Walter Reed was also well respected. But that was years ago and now its’ reputation is substandard. Its’ aftercare apartments have holes in the walls, rats and black mold hanging like an attitude of disrespect.

Now consider the two individuals.

You have an individual who when his country was at war stated that “he had better things to do” than serve in the military. This same individual has gone on to become a profiteer making money by cutting serves to the troops who are now at war.

The second individual who made the choice to heed his country’s call not caring whether he agreed with the administration or not. He made the choice knowing full well the sacrifices and prices both he and his family might pay. He places himself in harm’s way and gives the fullest measure. He suffers physically, emotionally, financially and mentally. He loses limbs and emotional wellbeing.

Now I ask you, who would you place where?

Loyalty to the People, not to the Party

Julian Carroll complained that Lt. Governor Steve Pence should step down because he was disloyal to Governor Fletcher.  He seems to forget that as the second in command in the Commonwealth his loyalty is to the people of Kentucky, not to the Governor or to the political party for which he stands.

Governor Fletcher came into office claiming he was going to clean up the corruption that had tainted the office.  Instead he just brought in his own corruption and saw fit to pardon his administration for their crimes.

Steve Pence stood up and said what the voters know; that Governor Fletcher is a liability to both the citizens of this Commonwealth as well as his party.  He spoke the truth even though the truth wasn't pleasant and was likely to cause him flack.  He did it not because it was the easy thing to do, but because it was the right thing to do.

Julian Carroll asked him to show some character.  Thing is, Steve Pence already had.  It's just sad that Julian Carroll no longer seems to be able to recognize it.
