Thank God for REDNECKs! The only group left in the United States for the high and mighty muckedy-mucks to slander, disparage, denigrate and ridicule without fear of being labeled bigots!

Do you recognize bigotry when you see or hear it? Certainly, you think you do. Well, how do you feel about anti-Southern bigotry? Nothing wrong with calling a Redneck a Redneck, right? Perhaps. It seems to be socially acceptable for a group to make fun of itself, however not for outsiders to do the same. Most of the funny Redneck jokes are told by people who consider themselves to be Rednecks. I recently posted a message on a board mentioning my political views and the fact that I live in a Red State. This was the response I received: I am tempted to write off your statements as the redneck, prejudiced, ignorance that they are, but what the heck? The idea that the US should ignore what other countries think of us is an obsolete, isolationist way of thinking that typifies our current administration and their arrogant and uninformed policies. The US is part of a global community, whether George and the rednecks like it or not.”

Although I despise anti-Southern bigotry and prejudice, I am uncertain that the stereotypes that seem to prevail amongst elitists in the North and elsewhere should be acknowledged and confronted. Rednecks are not whining wussies; they are progeny of the mighty Scots-Irish Presbyterians who pioneered the southern Appalachians and the American West. I wonder if Rednecks today understand the true meaning and heritage of the word. This term originated with Lowland Scottish Presbyterians who would wear red scarves or stiff red collars around their necks, demonstrating that they were Covenanters, members of the National Covenant, which was the Scottish Presbyterian Church. They had literally signed their oaths with their own blood at Greyfriar's Kirkyard in 1638. For the wearing of their distinctive insignia, they received the pejorative appellation, Rednecks. For their refusal to accept the Church of England, which they described as Popery Without the Pope, these Scots were persecuted by the British. They fled first to Ulster, Ireland, then to America, where they became the Scots-Irish ethnic group. Therefore, the word Redneck refers to a descendant of those Scottish Protestants or, more generally, a southern Scots-Irish American. At the time of the American Civil War, the Yankees began referring to all white Southerners as Rednecks. Ironically, the word Yankee comes from the Dutch and is based on a word implying greed.

Those who would slander an entire ethnic group are more to be pitied than confronted. Redneck will continue to be a badge of honor amongst true Rednecks. It is a benediction from Heaven to be descended from people who were brave rebels and fighters against injustice; who were fearless in settling where others dared not - the Southern Highlands. They were staunch, freedom loving Presbyterians, who were opposed to slavery. Their ties of kinship were as tight as the clans of Scotland. They were extremely independent, industrious and at times, a bit boisterous. It is true they were known to be boastful and seemed to feel that naught but the trees were higher than themselves. They could certainly provoke disorder and loud talk when they disagreed with a thing, part of the reason they had been called “Crackers” in Ireland. They were Rednecks and we are too. And, by the way, y'all, we can take it!

Films that show poor whites as violent people who attack wealthy citified whites allow the rich to justify their treatment of "white trash" by portraying the poor whites as racist, criminal and uneducated. This allows other typically marginalized groups to join upper class whites against the "white trash". This justifies upper class stereotyping of poor whites and serves to aid in relieving upper class white guilt over treatment of "others" in the past. The hatred and condescension of the poor seems to be the last available method of prejudice in our society. Investigators are looking into the possibility that Hossam Armanious, 47, his wife, Amal Garas, 37, and their daughters, Sylvia, 15, and Monica, 8, were slain by a Muslim angered over postings that the father wrote in an Internet chat room.

Look what happened in Holland just a few months ago. Holland, the most tolerant nation in all of Europe (probably the world). What did that toleration earn for them? MURDER in broad daylight for offending Islam. (605)

They heralded the "old news" with great fanfare that Lawrence Walsh was about to indicte Bush's Secretary of Defense, Casper Weinberger. Well, it worked that time, as there were no bloggers to call them on it. As a result, we ended up with eight years of the Clinton Glory Days . Nice Democrats

The Democrats are too nice for our own good! Our enemies want to kill us all, including our little children. Yet our elected officials seem more concerned for the enemies' comfort and welfare than for our own right to life, as guaranteed by the United States Constitution. The Senate Democrats at the confirmation hearings of Alberto Gonzales are decrying President Bush's decision that the Geneva Conventions do not apply to terrorists who wear no uniform, fight for no country and target innocent civilians. However the Democrats believe that the denial of prisoner-of-war status to al Qaeda fighters violates their rights. So whose side are they on? Not ours! The Democrats and their liberal niceties are having a devastating effect on interrogators' ability to gather the intelligence we need to continue to protect us from more horrors. These are dangerous times. These are dangerous people. Civilization is at stake. Who will be able to quarantee anyone's human rights after we are destroyed and evil reigns over the earth? Do the Democrats consider that when they put us all at risk of destruction, while they try to gain political points against George Bush. Do you think anyone of them will ever express any gratitude to him and his administration for keeping us safe these past 3 1/2 years?

On the Day of Epiphany, or Old Christmas Day, January 6th, little Brenna Cirrus arrived in the world. She is a fourth generation oldest child. To her father she is a very special little girl. He says that she is especially blessed because she is so loved. She is healthy and beautiful! Little Brenna was a breech baby, but with great praise and gratitude to superior medical care, both she and her mother are well. In earlier generations, likely neither would have survived the birth.
