Junior's Tale   Part 5

Chillin'

Junior's Tale.............. continued part 5

When they got to the yard of Junior's house, they stopped and Junior told her his plan and what she'd need to do for it to work.  She nodded that she understood and waited just where she was for the plan to go into action

Junior ran into the yard and up to the door.  He started pawing at the door, then jumping on it and meowing as loudly as he could.  A couple minutes later the door opened and the lady came outside.  As soon as she saw Junior, she started smiling and talking to him.  "Junior, where have you been?  I've been looking for you everywhere?" said the lady.  Junior rubbed against her legs.  The lady bent down to pick Junior up and he ran away so she couldn't get him.  "What's this Junior, come on come here I have food and catnip for you inside".  Junior went a little closer to her and again she tried to catch him.

Just then, another human came outside a much bigger human.  “Junior, good to see ya buddy come get some pets," said the man.  Junior started to go to the human, and then ran away again.  He stopped and the humans walked towards him.  Junior ran a little farther away and stopped again.  He looked over to where Roxie was hiding and meowed the signal.  With that Roxie showed, herself to the humans and Junior ran to her.

The humans saw both cats together and said something to each other then started to walk over to where the two cats were.  As soon as they got within a few feet of the cats.  Roxie started to run and Junior followed her.  The humans were following Junior just like Junior knew they would.  Roxie would run a little ways and stop until Junior caught up to her.  Then she'd run a little farther and Junior would wait until his humans got close and then he would run to where Roxie was now waiting.

The two cats kept up this game of human cat tag until they reached the clearing with the barn.  The humans were gaining on the cats because the cats didn't want to lose them in the forest.  As Junior and Roxie were scanning the clearing, the bigger human jumped and tried to catch Junior.  He just missed as Junior's tail slipped through his fingers.  The big human landed face first in the clearing.  As the lady helped the other human up, Roxie and Junior ran into the barn.

"Roxie, hide now", Junior told her.  Tiger was still hard at work trying to chew his way out of the cage.  "What in Bastet's name are you doing back here?" ( Bastet, is the Egyptian cat goddess of  the time when cats were all cats were loved and cherished). Tiger said angrily.  “Trying to get you free", Junior said.  Tiger shot him a confused look.  Then the two humans walked into the barn.  They saw Junior who was now nose-to-nose with Tiger.  Tiger backed in the very back of the trap and crouching now.

“Junior, you come here right now", said the lady.  Junior jumped up on top of Tiger's trap and meowed loudly, and then he started pawing at the metal bars and biting at them.

" Look's like Junior wants his friend loose" the lady said the other human."  "It sure does and I bet that's why he brought us here".  “You go find the people who live here and find out why they trapped the cat I'll stay here with the cats".  Then the bigger human left the barn.

Roxie slowly walked out and to the trapped Tiger.  She was nosing the cat and purring for him not to be scared.  The lady sat down on the ground and Junior ran to her.  He let her pick him up and pet and kiss him.  Junior started purring very loudly.  It felt so good to be safe in his lady's arms again.  The lady reached into her pocket and pulled out some cat treats.  She gave a few to Junior and tossed the rest to Roxie and Tiger.  She sat Junior down and he went over to Roxie and Tiger.  He licked Roxie's head and nosed Tiger to reassure them everything was going to be fine now.  The lady was talking softly to all three of the cats trying too easy their fear.  Junior went back over to her and sat with her while they waited for the other human to come back.

In a few minutes, Junior's human and another human came in to the barn.  The lady got up and took them both back outside the barn to talk, so the cats would not be any more afraid.  "Junior, please get Roxie out of here, don't let them trap her", Tiger pleaded with Junior.  “Tiger, I know you don't trust humans but my humans are nice to cats, they'll help you", Junior replied.  “They do put food out Tiger", Roxie added.

Outside Junior's humans, the farmer who owned the barn and had set the trap that now held Tiger, were talking.  The farmer said he didn't want a bunch of cats breeding all over his farm.  Junior's lady asked if he had mice.  The farmer laughed and replied, ' You must be a city gal, all farms have mice", in a gruff manner.  “What are you going to do with the cat in the trap?" she asked.  “I’ve already called animal control, Missy", the farmer replied.  “Well, I wasn't born in the city and all the farms around the town I lived in had barn cats to control mice", the lady said.  The farmer said, “We had a cat but he died last year.  He was getting pretty old about 19 as I recall.  Wasn't much good at mousin anymore, but he was a good ole cat".  The man that was with the lady spoke up now, and "Then you don't hate cats"?  he asked. "I don't hate any animals", the farmer replied.  "Well then how about you let us take the cat, we'll bring the trap back to you and animal control won't have to put the cat down"?  , asked the man.

The farmer thought a minute, then turned, and walked to the barn door.  He slowly pulled it open and looked at the three cats, Tiger, a huge male now huddled as far back in the trap as he could get.  Roxie sitting as close as she could get to Tiger and Junior, who once again had decided it was a good time for a display of bravado, now jumped up on top of the trap in defense.  The farmer closed the door and walked back to the Junior's people.

"Ya say that gray and white is your house cat?" he asked in a not really believing manner.  "Yes Sir, that's Junior.  He got out a few days ago and we have been searching for him ever since".  "Strange he'd take up with wild cats like these", he said.  “No sir, not really Junior was a feral".  The farmer interrupted her and said with a questioning tone, “Feral?"  The lady began again, “A feral is a wild cat Sir, one that hasn't been raised by humans.  We found Junior, as a kitten", answered the lady.  She added, “He’s really a very loving cat.  He sleeps with us every night".  The farmer laughed, “I never seen a wild cat that was friendly to humans before", he said.  The lady walked over to the barn door and pulled it open.  She thought to herself; oh please Junior come when I call you.  She knelt down on the ground looked right into Junior's eyes and said, "Junior, Junior, come here, come on come see mommy".

Junior thought for a moment, then jumped down off Tiger's trap and ran right to her.  She picked him up rubbing his head.  "Good boy!" sheexclaimed.  She carried Junior, who was now purring, over to the farmer.  "See, he's purring", she said.  The big farmer reached out his big hand and petted Junior on the head.  Junior looked up into the big man's eyes and smiled at him.

"Ok, take the dang cat; just be sure you bring me that trap back" said the farmer.  “You better be careful, the one in the trap isn't very happy about it.  He almost got me when I moved the trap in here".  "Thank you, Sir and we'll bring the trap back to you tomorrow", said the lady.
