Feeling Ecstatic
Our New Arrival!
SHE'S HERE!!!
Our little baby girl was born yesterday at 11:51 p.m. She weighed 7 pounds, 1.5 ounces and was 17.6 inches long. Her name?
MACY HELENA!
Minutes after she was born, they had just placed her on my chest.
Where did we get the name, you ask? Well, several months ago I was getting frustrated with Mike because he wouldn't give me any input on names. LOL. I asked him what name he liked, and he said, "Macy." Then he laughed and said, "I don't even know where that came from!" Well, we had a whole list of names going into this, but when we saw our girl we just knew she was Macy. Helena is after Mike's mom, who died when he was 9. Her name was Helen... but we modernized it a bit. It's pronounced "hel-LAY-nuh."
She is so beautiful and perfect!! Both Mike and Hailey were right next to me the whole time. It was such a special experience. We all cried!
I started having bad contractions Wednesday night. They kept me awake most of the night, and I was pretty sure I was going into labor. However, around 6 Thursday morning, they just stopped. I woke up at 8:30 wondering, "what happened?" I was kind of disappointed but knew real labor couldn't be far off.
So, Thursday I went and got my hair done, hoping my water wouldn't break in the stylist's chair. LOL. Mike also made me drive around sitting on a plastic tarp. LMAO. This is because the birthing class people told us amniotic fluid will ruin your upholstery.
Most of the day, no contractions at all. I cleaned the bathroom and did some "nesting." I fully expected the contractions to kick in full force as soon as I tried to go to sleep, since I was exhausted - and that is exactly what happened. We went to bed at 10:30 - by 11:30 I was fully awake, in pain and timing contractions. By 1:30 I woke Mike up and told him we needed to go to the hospital, the contractions were about 5 mins apart.
We got to the hospital around 2:30 a.m... checked in and they put me on the monitors to make sure I was really in labor. I was, and dilated to 3 cm.
The contractions got REALLY bad as I waited for my epidural. There were problems with it at first, apparently I have scoliosis and a "significant twisting" of the spine, which made my epidural space "off." I don't know why I was never told this, I had an epidural with Hailey and had no problems, and I 've never been told I had scoliosis... which is weird. Anyway, after about eight needle pokes and still no epidural, my blood pressure dropped to about 66/33 and they had to wait until I recovered to try again... which was about an hour. During that time, my contractions were unbearable. I was actually sobbing it was so bad. I think I was dilated to about 4 cm. After my BP came back up, a different anesthsiologist came in and reattempted the epidural. This time it was perfect, I felt instant relief. Here I am right after receiving it:
After I had the epidural, I dilated from 6-10 centimeters in fifteen minutes! Then it was time to push, and I only pushed through two contractions and Macy was here!
Coming home. Do you believe it was SNOWING??? It was 72 degrees a week ago! I was so mad.
At home in her bassinet, all dressed in pink!
I only stayed in the hospital for 26 hours after delivery, I was feeling so great they let me go home. It's so nice to be here with the baby and the family, all of us together!
Gotta go, just wanted to share our news!
