~ Mad Man ~

You all know I'm a Buffalo girl through and through. I've been a fan for years, since the Sabres came into the league. With that said, I grew up hating the Philadelphia Flyers, better known as the 'Broad Street Bullies' ( my apologies to my Philadelphia readers) For those fans you may remember the day of Kate Smith singing 'God Bless America' before their home games. Bernie Parent, Dave Schultz, Reggie Leach, Gary Dornhoefer, and Bobby Clarke. Later to be known as Booby Clarke. Fact is, there is a huge rivalry and has been for years. There were years it slipped into the background for a bit, but whenever the two teams met up it was good feeling when my boys won, heart breaking when the lost.
Those who have been reading may remember that day last year on Feb 27. It was the trading deadline and Marty Biron was traded to the Flyers. I was thrilled for him but broken heart broken at the same time. I knew a trade was coming, yet I cried when I heard the news. Happy and sad tears at the same time. How could I keep that hate for the Flyers when he was there?!
Life went on and though with each of his wins I was thrilled, when the boys played them I wanted so bad for us to win. This wasn't a great season for my boys. They were one of half the teams in the league to not make it into post season. I love my hockey and needed someone to cheer for. Would it be Marty and the Flyers? Ummmmm no. As opposing teams scored on him I would cheer and then say, 'sorry Marty.' It wasn't just the Flyers. I didn't and don't want to hear how the Sabres got rid of the wrong goalie. I don't think they have. It was time fora new place for Marty. To spread his wings and be himself. I thought the fans and media might tear him up, but I think he won their hearts as he has with so many here. His personality shines, his sense of humor can make even the grumpiest person laugh, and he is a talker. I mean a talker!!! Those that have had the privilege of hearing an interview with him know what I mean. ::grin:: This is a must see interview!
So here I am watching as many playoff games as I can. Yes, I am watching Philly too. I can't help but watch Marty and be so very happy for him. He is playing like a mad man. Standing on his head to thwart off the opposing team. I always cheer for him, but this is something special in the making. This doesn't mean I've changed my mind on the Flyers, far from it. Way too much history there, but I can't help but hope he continues to play well. He deserves the great recognition. Congrats Marty you're living your dream as the starting goalie in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Donna, please take it easy on Kate Smith, she is an icon in Philly.
Biron is a class guy and a great goalie. I too like his interviews.
I know I thanked you before for him and will do so again, thanks he is the reason we are in the playoff in my opinion.
