~ Life on the Farm ~

I took these pictures the other day when I went on my 'country drive.' A definite sign of spring, don't you think? Well, I thought they were perfect for this mornings entry. Getting up so early is definitely for farm life and not me! I didn't wake to the sound of a rooster crowing, instead my alarm went off with a shrill. It was dark and I fumbled for the snooze button. Just as I was about to push, my phone rang. I have some preloaded musical ring tone which during the day is not to bad, at 4 am it's obnoxious!! 'Hi' escapes me in a grumbled mess. 'You up?' I lied, 'yes.' I pushed the covers off me and got out of bed. Damn, it was cold! Not chilly, but cold!! I pushed my feet into my slippers, rubbed my eyes, and headed out to the living room. 'Give us about 15 minutes, then leave ok?' Rubbing my eyes, and with a yawn I reply, 'you got it.'
I combed my hair, pulled in up in some half witted knot/ponytail. Threw on jeans, a t-shirt, socks and sneakers. I threw water on my face. I grabbed the heaviest fleece and wrapped myself in it and headed out the door. The cold air hit me like a ton of bricks. 'Is it not May 19th?' WTF!?!? It was 37 degrees!! Dark and stillness filled my surroundings. Off in the distance I heard some birds and I wondered why they were chirping so early. With barely a car on the road I made my way to my son's place. Shadows of trees blowing in the wind lined the streets. Every once in awhile there was a glow from a house. Someone works early, or maybe it's late.
I no sooner pulled into the parking lot and out the door they came. Suitcases in hand. My son in shorts. BRRRRRRR but then again they are calling for 90 degrees in Florida. Lucky bastard!!! They loaded my trunk and jumped in the car. 'How'd you sleep?' My son slept like a log, his girlfriend not at all, she said. The excitement was evident. He chattered all the way to the airport. 'You're quiet babe', she replied she was a bit nervous. She'd flown only once before. Their flight was straight through so they had no layovers, no worries of changing planes, but a huge vacation as a couple.
I pulled over to let them out. The bags pulled from the trunk, hugs, kisses, and I love you's exchanged and off they went to check their bags. It was hard to believe at such an early hour, in the darkness, the airport was alive. The hustle and bustle of people, cars, taxi's, and all at 5:30! I had to wait to pull out as a van had double parked and blocked me in to let off passengers. Finally I was able to pull from the curb. They were long gone, mixed in with the many other weary travelers.
I drove home and slowly light began to arrive. A glimmer of the day. In the cold and now rain, morning was coming whether I wanted it to or not. Believe me, I did not want. I got home, back in my jammies, and back in the warmth of my bed. I slept for a couple more hours and when I woke I could smell the coffee my sister had made. Drinking my third cup as I write. They should arrive in their destination in about 30 minutes. I checked their flight, LOL, they don't call me nightmaremom for nothing, and it is on time. It won't be long before they are enjoying the sunny and warm temps of Orlando as I sit in the dreary, chilly temps of home. :::sigh::: sometimes things just aren't fair!!! LOL
Everything went off without a hitch as far as I know, but I definitely am not up to 'life on the farm.' Have a great day everyone, I have a nap in store :)
Hugs
