The lure of the Ring
Tolkien said that the Ring in LOTR was not about power, nuclear war, nor WWI or WWII, but about the rejection of death.
Each character is given a choice: And the good characters chose the humility of their God given fate: The elves to go to the West and diminish, the men and Ents to fight evil even if they might die, and even if they will not succeed.
